Marquee matchups

Probable starters: Carlos Rodon (5.23 ERA) vs. Chase Silseth (5.30)

It’s a pretty difficult time to be a Yankees fan.

New York is simultaneously putting itself further back in the wild card race and bringing Los Angeles back into it. The Yanks are 2.5 games back in the wild card race while the Halos are just 4.5 despite starting this series four games behind the Bronx Bombers.

Aaron Judge’s injury continues to push the Yankees further down the standings as they’re 20-27 without him this season.

Rodon starts for New York and he’s having a rocky go of things through two starts. He pairs a 5.23 ERA with an equally concerning 5.43 FIP, losing both of his appearances.

Silseth, who operates mostly as a reliever for the Angels, will open today’s game. His 5.30 ERA and 5.87 FIP suggest this could be a high-scoring game.

Probable starters: Ryne Nelson (4.98 ERA) vs. Charlie Morton (3.20 ERA)

Fans at Truist Park were treated to an entertaining night of baseball on Tuesday, even if the home team didn’t win.

Atlanta’s 13 runs were three short of Arizona’s 16 in a game that was decided in the final inning with the Diamondbacks scoring three in the top of the ninth.

The win snapped Arizona’s four-game losing streak and marked a third consecutive loss for Atlanta.

The Braves aim to bounce back with Morton on the mound. He has been excellent this month, posting a 0.47 ERA in three starts.

Nelson starts for the Diamondbacks and has allowed one earned run in three of his last four starts.

  • Justin Verlander is on the mound for the Mets as they host the White Sox. New York won the series opener 11-10, but can likely expect Verlander to keep Chicago's bats at bay. Despite not being his dominant self this season (3.72 ERA), he is starting to turn it around. Verlander has a 1.96 ERA in his last four starts.
