MLB odds, picks, and predictions: Tigers vs. Blue Jays 7/7/23

Three games remain until the All-Star break. That’s three more chances to get your first-half MLB Betting on track or continue rolling.

The Tigers salvaged one win in the three-game series against the A’s, winning a laugher 9-0 on Thursday. It’s more home cooking this weekend against former division rivals, the Blue Jays. On Friday, the Jays are pitching one of the better young hurlers in the game, Alek Manoah, but the big righty has inexplicably been dreadful so far this season.

Detroit’s offense showed life with nine runs yesterday, but we expect less rounding of the bases this weekend against a better team.

Game details:

  • Moneyline: Tigers +118, Blue Jays -140

  • Total: Over/Under 9.0 Runs (-125/+105)

Alex Faedo (1-3, 5.54 ERA, 26 K in 26 IP) vs Alek Manoah (1-7, 6.36 ERA, 48 K in 58 IP)

Faedo’s most effective pitch is his four-seam fastball. The problem is he throws it more than 50% of the time. When he lacks command, hitters tee off as he slows his velocity or is forced to go to lesser pitches. Luckily, Faedo keeps the ball in the zone (only two walks in 26 IP), but his velo is not spectacular (93 mph on the four-seamer), which means opponents can get the bat through the zone and hit the ball hard.

It’s difficult to pin down Faedo in regard to the K market. Two starts ago against the White Sox, the righthander fanned 10. But he’s also recorded fewer than 5 K’s in three of his five starts. We’d steer clear of any Faedo betting market for this game. Concentrate on the Detroit offense or moneyline for betting opportunities.

Manoah has never beaten the Tigers. He has a 5.06 ERA against Detroit in three career starts. He’s been hounded by inconsistency in 2023, and is making his first start since returning from the minors for what the Blue Jays called “a conditioning stint.” In his last outing in early June, he lasted just ⅓ of an inning and allowed six runs against Houston. There’s no telling what to expect from the should-be Jays ace.

Javy Baez likes the ball in the heart of the plate knee-high, where he can grip it and rip it with his all-or-nothing swing. Against Manoah, who may be cautious after missing more than a month trying to figure things out in the minor leagues. Once, Manoah was a Cy Young Award hopeful. Now, he’s been struck with a puzzling inability to get batters out. Do not bet on the run line or any Manoah markets for this game: there’s too much we don’t know about this pitcher and his command.

Tigers to win on the moneyline (+118 from Caesars) … Manoah doesn’t have all the kinks ironed out after missing more than a month. He will also be watched closely, and could only throw 3-4 innings. We like Detroit to keep putting up runs at home and stealing this series opener.

This same-game parlay is from the parlay builder from the Caesars sports betting app. We picked three hitter props to build a three-leg parlay. The odds are +1000. That means a winning $20 bet brings in $200.

  • Jake Rogers: Total hits over 0.5
  • Jake Marisnick Total RBIs over 0.5
  • Javier Baez Total runs scored over 0.5

We’ve hit on three same-game parlays in the last 10 days. That doesn’t make us perfect, but it makes us pretty happy, and if you considered our SGP on any of those days, your bottom line would look great.
