MLB parlay picks July 4: Bet on Blue Jays’ Whit Merrifield

MLB’s Independence Day slate is full of must-see matchups with all 30 teams in action.

The pregame narrative: Atlanta Braves outfielder Eddie Rosario is facing a pitcher he’s very familiar with, making him a good choice to record a knock. The same is true for Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Whit Merrifield, earning him a spot on our ticket. Thirdly, we’re teasing down the total and taking the over between Toronto and the Chicago White Sox.

MLB parlay picks

Parlay: Rosario over 0.5 hits + Merrifield over 0.5 hits + Blue Jays vs. White Sox over 7.5 runs (+186)

Rosario over 0.5 hits (-200): Rosario is having a solid season at the plate and his numbers across the board are right in line with his career-long statistics.

The Atlanta star is slashing .259/.309/.490 this season, largely besting his .269/.305/.464 slash line through nine years in the majors.

His numbers look even more impressive since the start of June, as he’s batting .294 with a .641 SLG during this time thanks to nine homers.

He faces a pitcher in Cleveland Guardians starter Shane Bieber who he’s very familiar with. In 25 at-bats against the righty, he has seven hits including three long balls, per Swish Analytics.

Bieber pairs a 3.48 ERA with a 3.98 FIP. Decent numbers, but not daunting enough for us to shy away from this wager.

Other parlay picks

Merrifield over 0.5 hits (-220): Merrifield isn’t going to hit the cover off the baseball, but he’s going to make contact and put the ball in play.

The all-star outfielder is batting .282 this season, tied for the 27th-best mark in the majors. And he has a hit in 19 of 27 games since the start of June (70.4%).

He’ll see Chicago starter Lucas Giolito on Tuesday, and these two are quite familiar with one another. Merrifield has 10 hits in 42 at-bats versus Giolito, including a pair of doubles and a home run.

Giolito’s 3.53 ERA is fine, but his 4.24 FIP suggests that number could be due for some regression.

Blue Jays vs. White Sox over 6.5 runs (-286): Lastly, we’re taking a teased-down over between these two teams.

As noted in the latest edition of Blue Jays betting trends, Toronto starter Chris Bassitt has a pretty stark home-road split. Bassitt sports a 2.41 ERA at home (eight starts), but a 5.89 ERA on the road (nine starts). Unsurprisingly, the over on this total has hit in four of his last five away outings.

Conversely, the over on this total has hit in five of Giolito’s last seven appearances.
