Boston Red Sox vs. New York Yankees Predictions for Saturday

Game 1 saw the Red Sox defeat the Yankees on the back of a solid offensive performance from the top of their order. Of their first four hitters, three – including Alex Verdugo, Justin Turner and Rafael Devers – had multiple hits. This, as well as a 2-for-3 RBI day from Triston Casas, was enough to lift the Red Sox over the Yankees despite Gerrit Cole’s solid outing (6.0 IP, 2 ER, 7 H, 1 BB, 6 K).

Boston may not have an ace of their own on the mound for Saturday's matchup, but they also won't have to deal with reigning AL MVP Aaron Judge at the plate. We may be in for another close game, but we're focused on Boston with our Red Sox vs. Yankees predictions.

Red Sox vs. Yankees Picks & MLB Best Bets for Today Including Boston's Money Line

For Saturday’s matchup, the Yankees will likely trot out right-hander Domingo German (3-3, 3.69 ERA), while the Red Sox are projected to start fellow righty Tanner Houck (3-5, 5.46 ERA). German has been solid, yet inconsistent lately, with a few blow-up starts driving his season-long marks away from greatness. Still, he is coming off an excellent outing against the Los Angeles Dodgers on June 4, where he went 6.2 innings and surrendered 1 ER on 4 H and 1 BB, striking out six.

On the other hand, Houck seems to be moving backwards. After an exceptional start three turns through the rotation ago (6.0 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 2 BB, 6 K vs. the Los Angeles Angels), he’s surrendered eight ER over his last two starts (9 IP). If Houck doesn’t right the ship for this start, he may dig the Red Sox a hole they can’t climb out of.

Despite this disadvantage on the mound, the Red Sox should have a bit of an edge at the plate – especially with Aaron Judge out. Boston ranks eighth in MLB in OPS vs. right-handed pitchers with a solid .757 team mark. The Yankees haven’t been bad against righties either – they rank 14th with a .724 team OPS – but the absence of Aaron Judge certainly hurts the lineup.

While Houck has been relatively poor over his last few starts, we think the Red Sox’ ability to hit right-handed pitching will be enough to lift them over the Judge-less Yankees, barring an absolute meltdown from their starter. While this is always a possibility, we think there’s a ton of value to be had in the Red Sox money line (+100 at BetMGM Sportsbook), particularly coming off a close win with the Yankees’ ace on the mound.
