National Signing Day suggests Jim Harbaugh’s reign over Ohio State and the Big Ten won’t last

Jim Harbaugh's Michigan team is ranked 18th in the nation. Recruiting rankings are important to the college football coach. Michigan will play in its second straight College Football Playoff next week. Since 2015, 24 of the 28 CFP participants have ranked 16th or higher in 247Sports' rankings.

The Wolverines haven't cracked the talent threshold since 2019. They've only played two teams with better talent than them in the last two seasons. Michigan has lost to teams ranked in top 25 only twice. The Wolverine coach offered 27 of the 35 five-star recruits in this year's class, but he didn't sign any. Ohio State signed about three five star prospects per cycle and ranked no lower than fifth. USC is on pace to sign its best recruiting class in five years. UCLA is also adding another budding stud factory. OSU only signed one five stars Wednesday. It's the Buckeyes' 2023 class ranks fifth overall.
