NBA player props: Best bets for Friday, December 22 featuring Joel Embiid, Steph Curry, Domantas Sabonis

There are just six games on Friday’s NBA slate, but that doesn’t mean bettors don’t have strong options when it comes to targeting player props. Here’s a few of our favorite plays for the day’s action, with odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook.

Joel Embiid over 35.5 points vs. Raptors (-135)

At some point, the 76ers big man and reigning league MVP will have a relatively low-scoring game. He’s actually gone under this mark in both contests against Toronto this season but his current scoring run is incredible. Embiid has scored 40+ points in five of his last eight games, with two 50+ point efforts. He’s topped this line six times in that stretch, with the unders coming at 34 and 35 points. It’s hard to fade Embiid right now at any scoring line.

Michael Porter Jr. over 2.5 3-pointers vs. Nets (+105)

The Nets have been solid overall at defending the perimeter, but have really slipped of late. Over the last 10 games, they are allowing opponents to shoot 40.5% from deep. Porter Jr. hasn’t been as lethal as before from range, but he’s still shooting 38.5% on the season. The Nuggets forward has canned at least two triples in four of the last five games, and I like him to improve on that against Brooklyn given the recent defensive struggles.

Tim Hardaway Jr. over 2.5 assists vs. Rockets (+110)

The Mavericks will be without Luka Doncic, Dante Exum, Kyrie Irving and Josh Green in this game, while Seth Curry is being listed as questionable. Hardaway Jr. isn’t exactly an assist machine but he’s going to be the de facto point guard given the injuries in the backcourt for Dallas. The Rockets do present a tough matchup, although this line should not be too difficult for Hardaway Jr. to clear.

Stephen Curry over 5.5 assists vs. Wizards (-160)

There’s not much value on this prop alone, so it might be worth combining with one of the others listed here to get a better line. Curry is coming off a monster game against the Celtics, but this is a spot where he’s more likely to get his teammates going in what could turn into a blowout. The Warriors point guard has topped this mark in each of the last two games, and the Wizards are dead last in the league in opponent assists allowed at 30 per game.

Domantas Sabonis over 41.5 points + rebounds + assists vs. Suns (-135)

The Kings big man had 31 PRA in 26 minutes against the Celtics, but he was on a tear before that. In the previous seven games, Sabonis was averaging 19.6 points, 13.6 rebounds and 7.7 assists per game in 34.5 minutes of action. This contest should be a high-scoring affair until the end, which bodes well for Sabonis to accumulate stats. He, and the team, will want to recover from the blowout to Boston. I expect him to have a big all-around effort in this contest.
