NC State football opens as three-score favorite vs. UConn

RALEIGH, NC -- We are officially 73 days away from kickoff for the 2023 NC State football team where the Wolfpack will travel up to East Hartford, Conn. to take on the UConn Huskies. Openings odds have been released and according to Circa Sports, NC State is an 18-point favorite against UConn for week one of the college football season.

The Huskies are a familiar opponent for NC State, as the two faced off against each other last season, where the Wolfpack dominated the contest winning by a final score of 41-10. In that game, former Pack QB Devin Leary threw for over 300 yards and four scores as NC State came into the game as 38.5-point favorites.

Fast forward to the end of the season and after the loss to the Wolfpack, bringing their record to 1-4 at the time, the Huskies ended up winning five of their next six games making them eligible for the postseason for the first time since the 2015 season, appearing in the Myrtle Beach Bowl.

Looking at this year's game, NC State, particularly on the offensive side of the ball will boast a completely different look with Brennan Armstrong likely under center for the Pack to start the year. Robert Anae's air-raid offense will be on full display in what should be a less formidable Huskie defense to start the year.

On the other side of the ball however, UConn returns four out of their five starting lineman from last season with former Penn State quarterback transfer Ta’Quan Roberson finally healthy after tearing his ACL in game one of last season for the Huskies.

As for the Pack’s defense, NC State returns the highest-paid assistant coach in the ACC in Tony Gibson who returns a core from last season including Payton Wilson, Aydan White, and Davin Vann in what should be a reloaded Wolfpack defense even after losing significant pieces who were major contributors.

NC State kicks off their season on Thursday, August 31st at 7:30 PM on the CBS Sports Network.
