NC State vs. UConn pick
The NC State Wolfpack hit the road for a matchup against the UConn Huskies to open the 2023 college football season.
FanDuel Sportsbook is favoring the Wolfpack by 14.5 points in East Hartford and I like that spread for NC State. Even though UConn is trending up after a 6-6 regular season last year, the Wolfpack just have way more talent.
The most important thing for NC State is its quarterback and offensive coordinator duo. Quarterback Brennan Armstrong transferred into the program from Virginia, where he’ll be reunited with offensive coordinator Robert Anae, who helped Armstrong throw for 4,449 yards and 31 touchdowns at UVA in 2021. Last season was rough for Armstrong with the Cavaliers, but Anae thrived at Syracuse in 2022 and helped the Orange drop 48 points on UConn last season. Armstrong should be able to succeed once again in Anae’s offense for the Wolfpack.
Vibes are high in Storrs after the Huskies first bowl appearance since 2015. UConn brought in transfer quarterback Joe Fagnano from Maine and he’ll be reunited with his previous Maine head coach Nick Charlton, who is now the Huskies offensive coordinator. Still, it should be noted that UConn beat mostly below average teams and got pounded by NC State 41-10 in Raleigh.
