NESN Red Sox Booth Could Undergo Massive Shakeup Thanks to White Sox

The Boston Red Sox are in a state of transition right now. They just hired a new Chief Baseball Officer, their roster is in flux, and ownership finally appears willing to spend big again after slashing payroll the last few years.

Even the team's TV booth could be headed for a major change, according to a recent report from Red Sox beat writer Chris Cotillo.

The Chicago White Sox could be poaching Boston announcer Mike Monaco from the NESN booth. The White Sox are currently looking for a new play-by-play announcer to replace Jason Benetti, who was just hired to broadcast Detroit Tigers games for Bally Sports Detroit.

This would be a significant loss for Red Sox fans, as Monaco is well-regarded by the fanbase. While he primarily works for ESPN, he fills in for Boston's main announcer Dave O'Brien when needed and typically does a great job. Some fans even prefer Monaco to O'Brien, who can be a bit grating sometimes with his voice inflections and storytelling.

While the 30-year-old Monaco is a Massachusetts native, he has more ties to the Midwest these days. He went to school at Notre Dame and currently lives in Chicago, so working for the White Sox would make a lot more sense than working for the Red Sox.

It would also be a big jump for Monaco to get a full-time announcing role, so no one would blame him for moving on. Time will tell if he ends up replacing Benetti or staying with Boston, but Chicago fans would be lucky to have him.
