New York Knicks vs. Dallas Mavericks Prediction, Preview, and Odds

On Thursday night, the New York Knicks head to American Airlines Center for a road meeting against the Dallas Mavericks. The Knicks hammered the Portland Trail Blazers on Tuesday. The Mavericks got dispatched by the Memphis Grizzlies. The tip is at 8:40 PM ET. Dallas opens as a home favorite.

Knicks Crush the Blazers

New York opened a huge lead and coasted throughout a 112-84 win over the Portland Trail Blazers. OG Anunoby scored 23 points, his most since coming to New York, and the Knicks won their fifth in a row since he joined their lineup.

Anunoby scored 16 in the first quarter when the Knicks opened a 19-point lead that would grow to 39 in the third quarter. He went 6 for 7 in the period, 4 of 5 behind the 3-point arc, and was already just a point shy of the 17 he scored in his Knicks debut against Minnesota on New Year's Day, his previous best since coming from Toronto in a Dec. 30 trade. “He’s made a great contribution, not just with defense, but moving without the ball, getting the ball up the floor fast, his shot-making, and it’s only going to get better as we go,” Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau said. Julius Randle added 20 points, eight assists, and seven rebounds and Quentin Grimes scored 17 points. Randle scored 10 points in the third quarter, including a layup that gave the Knicks their biggest lead at 94-55 with a little over two minutes remaining in the period.

Mavericks Thwarted at Home

The Mavericks fell behind early amidst a poor shooting night, losing 120-103 at home against the Memphis Grizzlies. Luka Doncic was in and out of the game with an ankle injury. He left the game briefly in the first half after hitting the floor on a hard foul. After some time in the locker room, he returned for the final seven minutes of the first half. He left the game again late in the third quarter, retreating to the locker room before returning to the bench. He finished with 31 points, but his rhythm looked discombobulated with the nagging injury. Kyrie Irving scored 33 to lead the Mavericks.

Dallas cut the deficit to 10 points on Jaden Hardy’s fastbreak dunk with under five minutes to go in the third. That was as close as they would get. “He was great tonight. He came out to show that he could beat us by himself without Ja or Jackson,” Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd said. “Their offensive rebounds - 18 - that’s way too many. Their physicality was too much for us. They came out, and they were assertive right off the bat. That put us in a hole, and we were playing uphill from there.” They get the red-hot Knicks next.

Rating:

The Knicks have been on a rampage since acquiring OG Anunoby from the Raptors. New York opened a huge lead and coasted throughout a 112-84 win over the Portland Trail Blazers. Anunoby scored 23 points, his most since coming to New York, and the Knicks won their fifth in a row since he joined their lineup. Anunoby scored 16 in the first quarter when the Knicks opened a 19-point lead that would grow to 39 in the third quarter. He went 6 for 7 in the period, 4 of 5 behind the 3-point arc. Dallas may hold out Luka Doncic after he suffered a recurring ankle injury during Tuesday’s loss against the Grizzlies. I expect coach Jason Kidd to rest him for this game, and the Knicks to open up a big lead and win again. Take New York.

Prediction: New York Knicks

Full-Game Total Pick

Rating:

New York is 26th in pace heading into this inter-conference meeting with the Mavericks. But, they are a different club since acquiring OG. Trail Blazers coach Chauncey Billups hinted at the Knicks cranking him their tempo over the last five games since acquiring OG. They are playing faster and will crank up the tempo against a Mavericks team likely without Doncic. Kyrie will handle the primary ball-handling duties. The total has gone over in eight of Dallas' last 11 games against an opponent in the Eastern Conference conference. I like the over in this game.

Prediction: OVER
