New York Mets vs. San Francisco Giants Prediction 7-2-23 MLB Picks

The San Francisco Giants and the New York Mets meet in MLB action from this week’s edition of Sunday night baseball from Citi Field. Let’s dive into the odds, starting pitching matchup, history and make a prediction for this game.

Odds

The Mets are -120 home favorites while the Giants are +100 road underdogs while the total is set at 9 runs.

Starting Pitching Matchup

Ross Stripling will get the start for the Giants and is 0-2 with a 6.88 ERA and 29 strikeouts this season. David Peterson will start for the Mets and is 2-6 with a 7.00 ERA and 50 strikeouts this season.

Matchup History

New York’s 4-1 win over the Giants on Saturday snapped San Francisco’s three-game win streak in this head-to-head matchup.

Trends

San Francisco is 16-5 in their last 21 road games and 14-5 in their last 19 games overall while the under is 4-0-1 in their last 5 road games. New York is 7-19 in their last 26 games overall and 2-6 in their last 8 home games while the under is 4-0-2 in their last 6 games against a team with a winning record.

Pick

I get the case to be made for either side in this game, but I’m leaning towards the Giants here. The Mets’ offense just hasn’t been consistent enough to trust in a spot like this especially with David Peterson getting the start. One good start from Peterson isn’t enough to convince me that this guy has suddenly turned it around. This will be Stripling’s first start in a month and a half, but I feel like he’s the option with higher upside here and the Giants’ bullpen behind him has been one of the best in the last month plus, so give me the Giants here.
