NEWCASTLE

RACE 1

Copper Satin has a sublime set of circumstances afforded to her by her trainer Mark Minervini. Home track, 900m, Andrew Gibbons, two trials this time in. Just on those trials, she won them both and was super impressive on both of them. Grand Larceny is a Zoustar half brother to Everest winner Yes Yes Yes. The Team Hawkes-trained colt was third as favourite on debut at Bendigo on debut on Sep 14. Might be hard to catch around here over 900m. Quinky Deel, the Dundeel son of Marquardt, has a bright future. Maybe 900m is short of what will be his optimum trip but he might/will be finishing hard late in the act.

Bet: Copper Satin to win

RACE 2

Allapercanto is a Team Hawkes housed filly who will go well beyond provincial grade. She ran a great race on debut at Kembla over 1200m on Aug 26. She stepped out to 1400m here three weeks later and came from last to beat them all. No reason why she won’t run 1850m, more reason to suggest that she will love it. Got An Inspiration os a proven middle distance type. Very fit, trained here and was a booming last start winner. Princess Rayla has some real depth to her form. Go Troppo is one from one at Newcastle. He is a proven city-class conveyance.

Bet: Allapercanto to win

RACE 3

Hasty Honey has raced four times so far in these races; the Woodlands Stakes, Up And Coming, a Kembla Super Maiden and the Flight Stakes. You would have to say that she was good in the Woodlands, not bad in the Super Maiden, better than she looked in the Up And Coming and outclassed in the Flight. This is her big chance to win one. Midori Giant gets a pass-mark for the debut at Kembla over 1400m. The experience and the step up to the mile are two factors in his favour. Mr Luke and Daytona Girl have had a lot of chances between them but they are in the mix to some degree.

Bet: Hasty Honey to win, exacta 8 to beat 3

RACE 4

Trendy Lass is a daughter of Lonhro. Her third dam is the former crack filly, Fiancee. Trendy Lass blitzed her rivals at Scone on debut on Jan 28. She had her next and so far only other start in the Sweet Embrace on a bottomless Heavy 10. Trialled up nicely. Smokin’ Crazy has a neat C.V. She was beaten by a handy horse at Scone first-up. Bullock/box 2. Kobenhaven has been somewhat hot and cold at times but there is something there. Just Gisela should get the run she needs from that draw with Keagan Latham on again.

Bet: Trendy Lass to win

RACE 5

Let’s Try is a well-bred gelding; his 2nd dam is Sugar Babe who won a Group 3, the next dam is On Type who won two Group 2s. A son of All Too Hard himself, Let’s Try turned in two seconds top open the new campaign prior to a now somewhat predictable win at Wyong in a Super Maiden. Goes without saying that he is a horse on the up. It’sacircus, a son of Trapeze Artist (naturally!), pulled out plenty when required to stave off his rivals on that 1200m Maiden at Kembla on Sep 23. Drew 3 that day, has ‘one’ this time. Tamar finished off like a train first-up on the Beaumont. If only this was 1400m or a mile.

Bet: Let’s Try to win

RACE 6

Rockola was $15 into $11 when he debuted in a 1250 Maiden here on Sep 16 and even though he finished seventh of 13, you would have walked away happy if you owned and/or trained him. It was a pretty strong field as it happens - better than this one IMHO. Chartwell is owned and bred by Kerry and Jenny Pooley and is yet another one of their former handy racemare First Look that ‘can gallop’. Drawn a fair bit wide but it is Newcastle today. There There has been very costly to follow with seven starts, five seconds and a third. Another way of looking at her is to say that she has been consistent all the way through.

Bet: Rockola to win, quinella 2,9

RACE 7

Picko Rocks is a son of Pierro. A relative of Special Harmony, Redwoldt and Perth Cup winner, King Canute, this Michael Freedman trained gelding is putting together a nice little resume that currently reads as 10 starts for two wins and five placings. One more thing, he has placed in all three visits to this venue. No one could ever really accuse Sir Godric of running a bad race. He runs a lot of good ones on big tracks at this trip. Away Game’s half sister The Seven Seas is building up to another win. Brynner could be the blowout.
