BEST BET

Race 3 No. 9: Marenaro

The Chris Waller-trained half-brother to Home Affairs raced a little keenly in the blinkers last start when fourth over a mile at Kembla. Winkers on this time and steps up to 1900m.

NEXT BEST

Went to the line untested at Randwick last weekend. Was held up for a run at Canterbury before that. Due for a change of luck.

VALUE BET

Race 1 No. 9: Jinsoku

The Joseph Ible-trained gelding laid out in the straight at Kembla last time out at just his second start when just beaten. Looks a nice each-way chance again.

INSIDE MAIL - GOSFORD

RACE 1

Jinsoku wanted to lay out in the straight before being claimed late by It’sacircus at Kembla last time out. That was just his second start and will take improvement from experience. Drawn well. Rapt was good in her first campaign with two nice second placings at Newcastle and Warwick Farm before finishing three lengths of Hip Hip Hoorah in the Listed Woodlands Stakes at Scone back in May. Uncut Gem came from back in the pack and was widest on the bend when just under two lengths from Smashing Dancer over 1000m at Hawkesbury first-up. Placed third in each of her three runs last campaign with each one better than the previous.

Bet: Jinsoku each-way

RACE 2

Highborn Harry ended last campaign with a handy win over 1400m Went back to last before coming widest off the bend when fifth to Balkans Rhythm Of Love in a BM68 over 1200m at Warwick Farm first-up. Back to a Provincial Class 1 and stepping up to a mile who looks like it will suit. Mr Papera placed at his first three runs back before breaking through with an all-the-way win over 1500m at Hawkesbury on Sept 7. Big chance again. Former Victorian Majestic Style went to a Class 2 over a mile at Scone first-up off one trial when seventh. Will be much better for the run. Sonny Fella can run into the placings.

Bet: Highborn Harry to win

RACE 3

Marenaro was slow out and settled last when fifth over 1300m at Hawkesbury first-up. Blinkers went on and raced a little keen just behind the speed from barrier two when fourth to Princess Reeya over 1600m at Kembla on Sept 23. Blinkers off and winkers go on this time. Ten Downing Street is due for a win after placing in three of his six starts and being close up fourth in a couple of others. Was less than a length off Hurricane Coni in a Class 1 over 2000m at Canberra last start. Frostymcfrostfrost got home OK out wide over 1500m at Goulburn first-up. Has placed over 1850m so he will appreciate the step up in trip.

Bet: Marenaro to win

RACE 4

Azayaka was slow away then raced keenly when given a dig up to lead before finishing a length second to Mount Warning on debut here in April. Finished third to Afterlight and Orlabent after working early before a spell. Blitzed her rivals in her recent Rosehill trial. Snitzel filly Cosmos looks a real chance to give Godolphin another Super Maiden win. Kept wide and under a strong hold when fourth in her Rosehill trial on Sept 19. Deep Field gelding Marchesi was green in his trial but showed good natural speed to sit third and finish a neck fourth without being let go and was in front soon after the line.

Bet: Azayaka to win

RACE 5

Schwarz has trialled since his first heat at Randwick in June when he beat Undivided. He has been terrific in his two recent trials. The latest when he took an inside run on the bend and ran home to win by length at Randwick on Sept 22. Better Than Anyone came from a clear last and made steady ground when fourth to Ballroom Bella when resuming at Hawkesbury on Sept 21. He best placings so far was second-up last campaign when a half-neck second to Announcing at this track and distance. Alvina’s Luck ran home from near last at her first two runs then tried leading last start.

Bet: Schwarz to win

RACE 6

Rhettara resumed from a spell with an impressive win in the Super Maiden at Hawkesbury on Sept 21. She was three-wide throughout from the outside gate before cruising away in the straight to win by a length and a half with Zac Lloyd keeping her under a hold through the line. Eagle Nest was unlucky not to have won at Warwick Farm two starts back on May 17. She blundered at the start and was caught wide throughout before going down by a long neck to Waikiki. Always back and not pushed in her recent Rosehill trial. Zanzibar Gem flashed home for a close second over 900m at Newcastle first-up. The extra trip suits.

Bet: Rhettara to win

RACE 7

The King ran home well for second behind Jedibeel when resuming at Wyong on Sept 1 then tracked the speed and hit the front 150m out before being claimed late by Los Padres at Hawkesbury on Sept 21. Meets his rival 1.5kg better this time. Los Padres came from last and tracked his stablemate Mural Crown before diving late to score by a neck at Hawkesbury. Jason Collett sticks and they will be strong late again. Sharp Shock resumed with a 2½-length fifth behind Derry Grove in a Class 3 TAB Highway at Randwick coming from near last in restricted room between runners.

Bet: The King to win

RACE 8

State Of America is backing up from his luckless run at Randwick last Saturday when he never got a clear run in the straight and went to the line untested behind Loving Cilla. Was a little unlucky when third to Our Maryanne at Canterbury before that. Blackcomb came from near last with a run down the outside to win at his NSW debut at Wyong before a third to Soul Choice at Warwick Farm last start. Vincenzo won two in a row at Kembla should have made it a hat-trick when a close third at Wyong after jumping in the air at the start. Better than his last run when seventh to Snowman at Rosehill last week.
