Changes may lead to goalfest

These clubs contested the 1976 League Cup final, when City denied Newcastle what would have been their first major domestic prize in 21 years. Forty-seven years later, the St James’ Park faithful are still waiting for that drought to end.

Newcastle reached the final last season – losing to Manchester’s other side – but don’t be surprised to see Eddie Howe ring the changes in this one with Champions League football now a priority.

The likes of Lewis Hall and Tino Livramento could come in for some minutes from the outset, while City are set to call upon Kalvin Phillips and Rico Lewis.

The changes could lead to an open, high-scoring match. The Magpies smashed eight past Sheffield United on Sunday while City have been scoring for fun for several seasons now

They have already netted 16 times in the league this season but even if that pair are not involved or start from the bench, we’re tipping over 2.5 goals in the match.

Newcastle vs Manchester City tip 1: Over 2.5 goals @ 3/4 with BetVictor

Almiron to make striking impression

One man who has been in and out of the Newcastle team this season is Miguel Almiron and the Paraguayan will be hoping to impress on Wednesday evening.

Almiron netted his first goal of the campaign in the victory at Sheffield United on Sunday and if he is handed a start he’ll be eager to try and show Eddie Howe why he should be back in the starting XI.

He scored in the 3-3 draw with Manchester City at St James’ Park last season and has a wand of a left foot, something he showed when he scored 11 Premier League goals in the previous campaign.

City have looked vulnerable at the back and have failed to keep a clean sheet in four of their last five matches in all competitions. We expect Almiron to have some chances if he starts and to get another goal against the treble winners.

Newcastle vs Manchester City tip 2: Miguel Almiron to score any time @ 4/1 with BetVictor

Hall set for a tough encounter

Newcastle’s Lewis Hall faces a tough night against the likes of Jack Grealish, Bernardo Silva and Jeremy Doku – three tricky players who are tough to stop when in full flow.

The defender, who is on loan from Chelsea, has not made many appearances at first-team level and may be susceptible to the speed of play against the champions.

It wouldn’t be a surprise to see him enter the referee’s notebook at some point on Wednesday evening.

Newcastle vs Manchester City tip 3: Lewis Hall to be carded @ 10/3 with BetVictor
