Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is under intense pressure with his struggling team currently performing well below expectation levels.

The Reds are currently 10th in the Premier League table, and most now stack the odds against them making the top four this season.

They have only managed to win eight of their 20 league games thus far - a remarkable fall from grace for a team that seemed destined to win an historic quadruple last season.

Liverpool ended up winning the FA Cup and the EFL Cup, while they were runners-up in the Premier League and Champions League.

However, their form has nosedived during the current campaign and Klopp is now priced at 14/1 in the .

He insists he will not quit, but he may be pushed if he cannot turn things around, so UK bookmakers are already offering odds on the next Liverpool manager.

We have rounded up the leading contenders to become the next permanent Reds boss and analysed their chances of landing the job.

Pep Lijnders

The highly-regarded Dutch coach has served as Jurgen Klopp’s right-hand man at Liverpool since 2018, so he has long been viewed as a potential successor.

His profile soared last summer after he published a popular book called 'Intensity: Inside Liverpool FC'.

Former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann accused him of giving the club’s secrets away, providing a blueprint for rivals to outgun the Reds.

However, Klopp and Lijnders both shrugged off those accusations, and the Dutchman has continued to serve as Liverpool’s assistant manager.

He may lack experience, but he knows the club inside out and he would bring continuity to proceedings, so Lijnders is the 5/2 favourite with to replace Klopp.

Thomas Tuchel

Tuchel remains out of work after new Chelsea owner Todd Boehly made the shock decision to sack him earlier in the season.

He left Stamford Bridge with his reputation fully intact, having guided the Blues to Champions League glory in 2021.

Tuchel is an elite manager with vast experience when it comes to working with the world’s best players, having previously spent two years at PSG.

He has been compared to Klopp throughout his career, as both men managed Mainz and Borussia Dortmund before leaving Germany.

However, they have a different footballing philosophy, and Tuchel would bring discipline and organisation to a Liverpool defence that has been leaking goals this season.

He is the 4/1 second favourite to take the job with Paddy Power, which looks like an intriguing option for punters.

Steven Gerrard

The former Liverpool captain was touted as a future manager of the club after leading Rangers to the Scottish Premiership title in 2021.

However, he dismissed such talk in an ITV interview: "The Liverpool fans don't want me to be the manager of Liverpool Football Club - they want Jurgen Klopp to continue to be the Liverpool manager, and I’m totally with all of them."

Instead, Gerrard moved to the Midlands to take over from Dean Smith as Aston Villa manager, and his reputation took a battering.

He was sacked in October after just 11 months at the club, and Villa’s subsequent upturn in form under replacement Unai Emery suggests that Gerrard may not yet be ready for one of the biggest jobs in world football.

As such, he is third in the betting at 9/2 to take over as the next Liverpool manager.

Julian Nagelsmann

Nagelsmann was just 28 years of age when he was appointed Hoffenheim manager back in 2016.

That made him the youngest head coach in Bundesliga history, but it proved to be a shrewd decision, as the club seriously punched above their weight during his tenure.

He moved to RB Leipzig in 2019 and continued to burnish his reputation, before landing the coveted Bayern Munich job two years later.

Nagelsmann led Bayern to the title last season, and they are likely to win it once again this year, so it would be difficult to lure him away from Munich.

However, the prospect of managing Liverpool may turn his head, so Nagelsmann is 13/2 with Betfair to take over from Klopp.

Ange Postecoglou

The Celtic boss is priced at 15/2 to become the next Reds gaffer after impressing during his time in Glasgow and Postecoglou has been linked with the Liverpool manager’s post in the past.

His team cruised to a Scottish Premiership triumph last season, and they are currently well clear of Rangers with back-to-back titles looking inevitable.

However, this would be a left-field choice, as Postecoglou spent most of his career in Australia before leaving for Japan in 2018 and then moving to Scotland in 2021.

He may well have won a host of trophies, but he has never managed in one of Europe’s top leagues, so this looks like one to avoid.

The Rest

Another former Liverpool player, Xabi Alonso, is priced at 10/1 with to leave Bayer Leverkusen and replace Klopp at Anfield.

Many of the usual suspects are also in the mix, with Diego Simeone priced at 14/1, while Antonio Conte is 16/1 to move from Tottenham to Merseyside.

Longer shots include Graham Potter (25/1), and former Liverpool managers Brendan Rodgers and Rafa Benitez are each priced at 40/1 to return to the club.
