Oct. 10 NHL picks and predictions: Odds, preview, promos and more

This year has got a lot of top contenders battling with no clear favorite as the Carolina Hurricanes, Edmonton Oilers and Colorado Avalanche all have a claim to the best team in the league trophy. That’s not even mentioning the defending champion Vegas Golden Knights.

Below are our favorite NHL picks today for Oct. 10.

Oct. 10 NHL predictions: Tampa Bay Lightning ML (-165 or better)

Despite having an older core, the Tampa Bay Lightning remain one of the league’s very best teams and we think they open the 2023-24 season with a win.

This year, they will have to manage not having goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy for the first part of the season as he is out with an injury. However, that should not slow them down on opening night against the Nashville Predators.

The Lightning still have one of the best forward groups in the league with Brayden Point, Steven Stamkos and Brandon Hagel leading the way.

On the other hand, the Nashville Predators are rebuilding. While goalie Juuse Saros is among the league’s best, they lack the depth that the Lightning have, especially when it comes to forwards.

Look for the Lightning to take this one on home ice and cash this moneyline bet.

Oct. 10 NHL prop bets: Erik Karlsson over 0.5 power play points (+125)

While a lot of attention in this game is going to be on the debut of Connor Bedard, it’s another player wearing a new jersey for the first time that you’re going to want to back for this wager.

After having one of the best offensive seasons by a defenseman ever, Erik Karlsson is on a new team.

He will be one of the Pittsburgh Penguins’ top options to hop over the boards first when the team has a powerplay. Karlsson is one of the best powerplay quarterbacks in NHL history and will have the puck on his stick a lot.

In a matchup against a Blackhawks team that is projected to be among the league’s worst, look for the Penguins to score quite a few goals. This should lead to Karlsson getting on the scoresheet with the man-advantage, cashing this bet for gamblers who are willing to follow.
