NHL Draft 2022 Day Two Recap: Canucks pick ... Elias Pettersson?

The Vancouver Canucks are at the NHL Entry Draft. Fans can watch the draft from 8 a.m. on Sportsnet.

The Canucks didn't have a pick in the second round, but they did have picks in rounds 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7. They made all five of their picks on the day, on left-shot defencemen, a goalie, and a big centre. Todd Harvey, director of amateur scouting, played 671 NHL games as a right-handed winger.

The Canucks picked Elias Pettersson in the third round. The Swedish defenceman is known for stopping people. He pronounces his name exactly the same. Elite Prospects' J.D. Vancouver Canucks picked Daimon Gardner in the fourth round of the NHL Draft. Gardner played high school hockey in Minnesota last season. He will play for Chilliwack Chiefs of BCHL in 2022-23 and then play at Clarkson University in 2023-24. Harvey thinks it's a good move for Gardner to play one more year before going to college.

Daimon Gardner was selected 112th by the NHL scouts. He is a 6-foot-4 centreman who is talented inside-focused and a talented passer. His edge work is the major question mark.

Ty Young was drafted by the Canucks. He played for the Prince George Cougars this season. Director of goaltending Ian Clark is a fan of athletic goalies with a competitive nature.

This year's draft-eligible goalie class is very young. Most of the players are months to a year behind in development.

Jackson Dorrington was Vancouver's sixth round pick in the NHL draft. Dorrick played for Des Moines in USHL last season. His skating is a concern. He profiles as a defensive defenceman with some puck-moving chops.

Kirill Kudryavtsev was picked by the Canucks with their final pick. He played for the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds this season. The GM Kyle Raftis says he played in the top four all season and will play for Southeau next year.

The Canucks will pick Elias Pettersson in the 2022 NHL Draft. New York Islanders traded their first round pick to Montreal for Alex Romanov. Montreal then traded the pick for Kirby Dach.

The Canucks didn't make a trade at the draft. They hope to re-sign J.T. Miller. The team would like to change the mix of their defence.

There were rumours about Vancouver and New York Islanders discussing J.T. Miller. Chris Botta used to cover the Islanders and he believes there is something to the reports.

Vancouver Canucks picked Elias Pettersson in the NHL Draft 2022. If it's true that Lou Lamoriello talked contract with Miller's agent, then Lou was right to walk.

The Canucks blocked Lamoriello from talking to Miller's agent about a possible contract. The Canucks didn't land the 13th pick. They could have traded back from 15 and got 8 picks instead.  The NHL has long been wary of players taking control away from teams.

Bruce Boudreau is a pro wrestling fan. He was talking to the NHL Network about the draft. Kevin Owens appeared out of nowhere. Buddupreau talked about WWE and the 'draft' between Smackdown and Raw.

Rogers' mobile service is down across the country. The on-site broadcast of the draft was interrupted by the Rogers' issues. Sportsnet picked up the NHL Network's feed instead.
