NHL parlay picks Nov. 14: Bet on Canadiens, Ducks as underdogs

A nine-game NHL slate has a lot of parlay potential, and I'm scoping out a pair of underdogs and a total.

The pregame narrative: The Montreal Canadiens are receiving surprisingly competent goaltending and are a nice underdog pick at home against the Calgary Flames. The under is a strong play in that game with neither offence delivering. Thirdly, I'm taking the Anaheim Ducks as a road underdog against the struggling Nashville Predators.

NHL parlay picks

Parlay: Canadiens +1.5 + Flames vs. Canadiens under 6.5 goals + Ducks +1.5 (+324)

Canadiens +1.5 (-200): Montreal is a home underdog against a Calgary team that hasn't shown anything this season.

The Flames are a brutal 4-8-2 ahead of this contest and have looked rough at both ends of the ice. On defence, they rank 26th in goals against per game (3.57) and 29th in save percentage (.877).

Calgary has been equally bad offensively, too. The team ranks 27th in goals per game (2.64) and is generating the 10th-fewest scoring chances per 60 (28.2), per Natural Stat Trick. It has failed to cover this number in eight of nine road games.

The Canadiens at least rank 13th in save percentage (.901) and a little more respectable 23rd in goals scored per game (2.87).

Other parlay picks

Flames vs. Canadiens under 6.5 goals (-121): These offences both rank in the bottom half of the league, and that doesn't provide much hope for a high-scoring matchup.

The under on this total has hit in two of the last three games for both squads.

It's unlikely that either team will explode for a big game on the power play, either. Montreal actually ranks 10th on the man advantage (23.0%) this year, but it'll be up against Calgary's fifth-ranked penalty kill (87.0%).

The Flames' PP has been nonexistent, placing 26th (14.9%) in the league.

Ducks +1.5 (-177): Lastly, I'm liking what I've seen from Anaheim thus far.

The Ducks enter Tuesday with a respectable 8-6-0 record, and goaltending is playing a big part in that. Their .910 save percentage ranks eighth in the NHL and they're allowing the 11th-fewest goals per game (2.93).

Nashville has surprisingly received very poor puck-stopping. It's 26th in the category (.885) and is tied for surrendering the eighth-most goals per night (3.50).

The Predators have failed to cover a -1.5 spread in four of six home games.
