Noel Gallagher once surrendered £20 to a Premier League star in an ill-thought-out Soccer AM bet - which he was then asked to sign.

The high-flying rock legend, 55, is a regular on the soon-to-be-axed Sky Sports programme, recently netting the most casual one v one ever when appearing alongside Lioness hero and Women's European Championship winner Jill Scott.

A passionate Manchester City supporter, Gallagher has been appearing on Soccer AM since the early days of its inception but quickly learned his lesson about betting against the professionals. In 1998, the Oasis frontman was left red-faced after pledging £20 against Coventry City defender Liam Daish that he wouldn't be able to complete the show's 'Car park Challenge'.

Having blocked up the bulk of a non-standard goal, barring a small hole through which the Prem star was challenged to sink the ball, Gallagher upped the stakes as Daish prepared for the pressure kick. "20 quid says you don't do it mate," said the singer-songwriter.

The former Republic of Ireland international stepped up to send a left-footed effort straight into the target, prompting vast cheers and celebrations from those watching on the sidelines as Gallagher stretched towards his back pocket and pulled out a wad of cash. The guitarist made good of his honour by slapping a £20 note into the hands of Daish, who asked "will you sign it"?

Gallagher gave a quick nod before taking to the field himself but the Oasis star was unable to replicate Daish's success, sending his shot just off target.

A graduate of the Portsmouth academy, Daish made just one senior appearance for the south coast side before moving to Cambridge United in 1988, where he helped the club to successive promotions to the Second Division. His performances soon caught the eye of Barry Fry at Birmingham City and Blues forked out £50,000 to bring him to St. Andrews in January 1994.

Daish claimed the Second Division title and the Football League Trophy that season before later joining Coventry in a £1.5million switch but a severe knee ligament injury hampered his game time. Turning to management upon retirement, the defender spent eight years in charge of Ebbsfleet United and oversaw their 2008 FA Trophy triumph.

His last stint in the hot seat came at Nuneaton Town, leaving after their relegation to the National League North. Daish was appointed manager of Birmingham's academy in November 2022.
