Nottingham Forest vs Newcastle Odds & Picks

There's plenty to play for in Saturday's EPL finally as Nottingham Forest look to distance themselves from the relegation zone. As for Newcastle, they'll hope to string together some wins in hopes of catching Tottenham for a European spot. Which team will collect a vital three points? Find out below in our soccer picks for Nottingham Forest vs. Newcastle.

One look at the Premier League table confirms that Newcastle’s hopes of European qualification are in real jeopardy, but the Magpies can make up ground this weekend against a Nottingham Forest team fighting for top-flight survival.

The visitors are soccer odds favorites here but nothing has come easy for Eddie Howe’s men this year, and they followed up an eye-catching 3-1 win over Aston Villa with a head-scratching 4-4 draw against Luton last weekend.

Things are bleaker for Forest, who’ve only taken a single point from their last three league fixtures. They stunned Newcastle in late December and got a boost with a penalty shootout win against Bristol City in midweek to reach the fifth round of the FA Cup.

EPL predictions for Nottingham Forest vs Newcastle

Newcastle’s rough injury luck has been a talking point all season – and there’s no sign of that changing. Howe has more rejigging to do this weekend, with Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon both ruled out.

I still like the visitors’ attack to cause problems. Callum Wilson is ready to make a timely return in the central striker role while they can turn to birthday boy Miguel Almiron, Jacob Murphy, and Harvey Barnes on the wings.

That feels like a formula for Newcastle to hit the Over on 1.5 goals. The Magpies scored four against Luton last weekend, making it six straight games in which they’ve netted two or more goals.

They’re getting contributions from everywhere too, with Sean Longstaff bagging a double last weekend and Fabian Schar popping up with two goals in the win over Villa.

Nottingham Forest conceded two or more times in four of their first five games in 2024, and a few starters logged big minutes in the FA Cup on Wednesday. More compellingly, the hosts haven’t kept a clean sheet in the Premier League since November 5.

I like these odds for Newcastle to show their usual intent in the final third and pick apart a wobbly, depleted Forest defense.

Newcastle Over 1.5 goalsCallum Wilson anytime goalscorer

Taiwo Awoniyi Over 0.5 shots on target

With Isak sidelined, Wilson takes center stage on Saturday at the head of a dangerous, pacey Newcastle front three. Despite an injury-riddled season, he’s got seven Premier League goals to his name and he’ll be in line for penalty duties here too.

I expect Almiron and Murphy to get behind this Forest defense, creating chances for Wilson, who’s had a combined eight shots in his last three starts.

I’m also looking at the Awoniyi props for similar reasons. He should be a focal point for Forest with Chris Wood out, and he didn’t play the full game in midweek.

Awoniyi has had a couple of outings to sharpen up after missing time with a groin injury, and I see him testing Martin Dubravka this weekend.

Nottingham Forest vs Newcastle side and Over/Under analysis

Put simply, Newcastle needs every possible point for their push up the standings. They enter the weekend 13 points adrift of fourth-place Villa but within striking range of the Top 6.

There’s payback in the air as the Magpies look to avenge a painful 3-1 defeat at home to Forest earlier this season, but the thriller against Luton gives me a little pause about picking a road victory. Newcastle blew the lead twice that day before rallying from 4-2 down.

With neither team inspiring confidence defensively, a stalemate feels unlikely. I’ve already picked the visitors to make their chances count, and the BTTS – Yes prop is worth a look too.

That said, there are plenty of unknowns with Forest, from whether Gibbs-White is available to the effects of 120 minutes in midweek. Plus the hosts’ defensive absentees, including a trio in action in the African Cup of Nations final, leaves Nuno with limited options to combat the lively visitors.
