DARREN FLETCHER’S twin sons are desperate to follow in their father’s footsteps by starring in the Manchester United midfield.

But they won’t be lining up together for their country as they currently represent different, rival nations.

In fact, the teenagers have already played both WITH and AGAINST each other in international football - despite being born within minutes of each other.

Jack and Tyler Fletcher’s dad etched his name into Manchester United history with 342 senior appearances having been scouted in Scotland and joining the club aged 11.

Across 12 years in the first team, Fletcher helped the Red Devils win five Premier Leagues, an FA Cup, the League Cup, the Club World Cup and the Champions League.

The central midfielder - who underwent surgery for long-term bowel disease ulcerative colitis during his career - was vice-captain in his final season at the club before finishing with spells at West Brom and Stoke.

He also earned 80 caps for Scotland, captaining his country 34 times.

Fletcher hung up his boots in 2019 and embarked on a coaching career, starting out with the United academy before being promoted in January 2021 to assist Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as a first-team coach.

But within two months, Fletcher’s job changed as he was appointed as United’s first technical director.

And now it means he can keep a close eye on his lads, born three years before Darren tied the knot with wife Hayley Grice.

The twins, who turn 17 in March, both play in the middle of the park just like their old man.

But they initially developed in rivals City’s academy before both making the switch across Manchester in the summer.

They have made their debuts for the Red Devils' Under-18s side but it is on the international stage that things get particularly interesting.

Jack and Tyler are both eligible to represent Scotland and England - and initially opted to follow their dad’s lead as they turned out for Scotland’s U16s.

The brothers played on the same team in three matches - against Denmark, Wales and Ireland - in the autumn of 2022.

Jack then got called up by England’s U16s and the two nations faced off in February 2023 - with the Fletcher twins on opposite teams as Jack’s England ran out 3-0 winners.

But just two months later, they played together for England as the Young Lions won the Montaigu Tournament in France.

Then in October, Tyler reverted back to play for Scotland in their U17 Euro 2024 qualifiers against Belarus, Kazakhstan and Turkey while Jack missed out on the England U17 World Cup squad - although there are suggestions he too may switch his allegiance north of the border once again to link up with his twin.
