Hammers strong in Europe

West Ham head to Olympiacos hoping to keep up their incredible European record with another victory on Thursday evening.

The Hammers are very good in European competition and are now 17 matches unbeaten in Europe, a new English record, after they went top of their qualifying group with their recent win over SC Freiburg.

Olympiacos lost their previous home game, at the Karaiskakis Stadium in Piraeus, in this year’s Europa League to German outfit SC Freiburg and have failed to beat English sides on home turf in their previous five meetings.

West Ham have lots of European experience and are playing some good football in the Premier League this season, despite their recent loss to Aston Villa.

Wins against Brighton and Chelsea suggest the Hammers have the attacking capability to hurt their opposition and the 2-1 victory at SC Freiburg in their previous Europa League fixture epitomised this.

We expect a close encounter on Thursday evening, but one that West Ham can edge because of their excellent recent record in Europe.

Bowen can continue hot streak

One man who has been simply sensational for West Ham so far this season is England winger Jarrod Bowen.

The development in his game since joining the east Londoners from Hull City has been clear for all to see and he scored the winning goal for the Hammers in the Europa Conference League final last season.

Bowen is a player for big moments and already has six goals in the Premier League this term, with five of them coming away from home.

This should bode well for him in Greece against Olympiakos. The hosts have kept just two clean sheets in their past six matches in all competitions – highlighting an opportunity for Bowen to capitalise.

Camara faces torrid time

A key man for Olympiakos is midfielder Mady Camara, who is set for a tough test against the likes of Mohammed Kudus, Said Benrahma and Bowen.

The Guinea international is going to have to deal with a lot of skilful players running at him on Thursday evening, and that could provoke some ill discipline.

Camara has been booked twice in the Greek league already this season, as well as picking up a yellow card in the qualifying fixture with Genk.

He was cautioned five times last campaign, when on loan to Italian outfit Roma, and we expect his name to go in the referee’s notebook again when the clubs meet on Thursday.
