Pennzoil 400 Odds & Picks at NASCAR Las Vegas Motor Speedway: Bet Bubba Wallace & Tyler Reddick

NASCAR bettors, fire up those accounts. With the Daytona 500 and “New” Atlanta behind us, it’s time for the first real actionable race of the year at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. So let’s dive into the Pennzoil 400 Odds and place our chips down on some bets.

The first important practice and qualifying sessions in terms of NASCAR Odds have concluded from Las Vegas Motor Speedway and they were eventful. Practice was highlighted by extremely strong winds, including gusts ranging from 50 to 70 mph. Ross Chastain and William Byron posted the top single-lap speeds in their respective groups.

The Thanos-like figure Kyle Larson was unsurprisingly inevitable, and as impressive as ever. He finished just behind his HMS teammate Byron in single-lap speed but posted the best 5, 10, 15, and 20-lap averages during practice.

In qualifying we saw Larson continue to exhibit that impressive speed we’ve become familiar with here putting his Hendrick Motorsports No.5 on the front row. But shockingly, he won’t be bringing us to green tomorrow. That honor goes to last season’s pole winner in this race, Joey Logano who bested Larson by just .02 seconds.

As has been the norm for some time, the No.5 car of Kyle Larson opened the week as the prohibitive favorite with odds moving between 4 and 5-1. The next best odds are teammate William Byron who hovered around 8 to 9-1 ahead of on-track action. After Larson’s strong practice and qualifying efforts he’s re-opened as low as +320 while Willy B. saw modest movement to around 7-1.

The biggest movers compared to pre-practice and qualifying Pennzoil 400 odds are led by Joey Logano who has plummeted to around +750 after opening the week at 18-to-1 or higher at most books. The 23XI team of Tyler Reddick and Bubba Wallace were also very strong on Saturday. Both cars posted strong splits in practice with the No.23 of Wallace cracking the top-10 in qualifying, claiming the 5th spot on the starting grid.

So now that cars have hit the track and we have an idea of what to expect… Very small idea I’d caution, haha. It’s time to place our Pennzoil 400 Bets and see if we can hit the jackpot.

Tyler Reddick Top Toyota +375 (Caesars) 1u

Go get yourself some Reddick exposure in the betting market! Red Dog looked great in practice, posting some of the most impressive splits (5, 10, 15-lap averages). More importantly, he showed tremendous falloff numbers, or lack thereof in the process.

Reddick showed tremendous speed at similar track types last season winning at Kansas and being the only car even competitive with Ryan Blaney in Charlotte. And even when he didn’t catch the set-up here last fall, he still brought it home 8th. He’s finished worse than that spot just once in the Next Gen car here in Vegas, and that was after starting near the back last Spring.

I know he has an uphill climb from his midpack starting spot but he was one of the few cars that rivaled race favorites Kyle Larson and William Byron during practice. He was the best Toyota during practice and although his qualifying effort was a bit disappointing he’s made his way through the field many times before. I don’t think it’ll be too long before we see the 45 competing near the front and this is a way better value than any of his placement Pennzoil 400 odds.

William Byron Top Chevy +300 (Caesars) 1u

I’m not saying I love William Byron this week. But in the same breath, I think it would be a mistake not to have some exposure to the most dominant car from last Spring. With that in mind, grabbing Byron to finish as the top Chevy, presents much more value than in a matchup against his toughest competition in this market, race favorite, Kyle Larson. And it opens up multiple possibilities to cash, as opposed to taking him at 6 or 7-1 to repeat as winner.

I think the field shows better during the race than we saw in practice yesterday or last season. And a few drivers have a legit opportunity to challenge for a win here at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Considering that possibility, I’m more than happy to sacrifice the longer outright odds for what I essentially believe to be a matchup against Kyle Larson, which has William Byron anywhere from +130 to +135 in by the way.

Bubba Wallace -112 over Ty Gibbs (FanDuel) 5u

I’m not exactly sure if FanDuel made a mistake here or what. Regardless, this is a smash play for me. Wallace was one of the most popular pre-practice and qualifying outright bets. And he didn’t dispel any of that optimism with his stellar practice session or by putting his No.23 Columbia Toyota Camry in the 5th starting spot for the race.

Gibbs was pretty popular before on-track action in his own right. However, he, along with the rest of JGR was significantly worse than the 23XI camp in practice. Gibbs did grab a top-10 starting spot for the race. but he did the same last Spring and wound up finishing 22nd on the day. Wallace started that race nine spots worse but finished inside the top 5. In fact, outside of the late-season Kansas race where Bubba had an early incident, this matchup wasn’t particularly close in any of the similar tracks in 2023. I think Wallace is on the short list of cars capable of competing with race favorite Kyle Larson, and Gibbs is not.
