Both of these bullpens have been awful so far. They own the league’s highest two ERAs (Phillies 6.83, White Sox 7.57), but they have both been severely BABIP-ripped so far (Phillies .353, White Sox .400). They aren’t terribly likable ‘pens overall, but they are better than advertised by their current surface numbers.

This play is fueled all around by BABIP and similar “luck” factors. Both starting pitchers have pitched better than what shows in their stat lines.
