Pittsburgh Pirates: Josh Palacios Set to Rejoin the Active Roster
On Thursday, the trade deadline dominoes began to fall for the Pittsburgh Pirates. This happened with them trading first baseman Carlos Santana to their division rival Milwaukee Brewers. Moving Santana creates an open spot on the active roster.
According to Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette outfielder Josh Palacios will rejoin the team to replace Santana on the active roster.
In his first stint with the Pirates this season Palacios hit for a .229/.264/.343 slash line with a 62 wRC+ and a 64 OPS+. He struck out at a 14.4% clip, he drew walks at a 3.6% rate, with a home run and two stolen bases in 111 plate appearances.
At Triple-A this season Palacios has done nothing but hit. In 90 PAs with Indianapolis he hit for a .410/.489/.795 slash line with a 213 wRC+ and both a 12.2% walk and strikeout rate. In 37 PAs with Double-A Altoona, Palacios hit for a .265/.324/.324 slash line with an 82 wRC+.
Moving forward it remains to be seen how Palacios will be used. Odds are, he will settle in to a fourth outfield role with the Pirates while Bryan Reynolds, Jack Suwinski, and Henry Davis continue to hold every day roles in the outfield.
