Plainridge Park To Open New Barstool Sportsbook In A 'Few Months'

Plainridge Park Casino is targeting late spring or early summer to finish turning Flutie’s Sports Pub into its permanent retail Barstool Sportsbook.

That’s according to a Plainridge Park racing official, who shared the update with PlayMA on Wednesday.

“Not for another few months,” the official said.

(Several calls to Plainridge Park Casino went unanswered. The racing department was the only department to pick up.)

Plainridge Park Casino opened a temporary Barstool Sportsbook on Jan. 31, when in-person sports betting in Massachusetts went live. Flutie’s Sports Pub has been closed to the public for several months as it undergoes renovations to become the casino’s new, permanent sports betting location.

Open by MLB All-Star Game?

In February, Plainridge Park spokesperson C.J. North told PlayMA the new PPC sportsbook will be “Boston-themed” and have full-service restaurants, a bar, 20 sports betting kiosks, five betting windows and walls lined with HD TVs. North told PlayMA at that time PPC was eyeing a summer opening.

However, the Plainridge racing official said the casino was “shooting for (late) spring.”

If it can be completed by early July, PPC’s retail sportsbook will be open for Wimbledon, which runs July 3-16, and the MLB All-Star Game, which is July 11. If things move quickly and renovations finish by June, there’s a chance the new Barstool Sportsbook will open in time for golf’s US Open (June 12-18). Maybe even the NBA Finals (beginning June 1).

Details of temporary Barstool Sportsbook at PPC

The temporary Barstool Sportsbook Massachusetts at Plainridge Park has 18 kiosks and five betting windows. In its first full month of operation, February, the PPC sportsbook reported the most revenue of all three MA casinos at $890,555. It had the second-largest total handle at $7,059,460, behind Encore Boston Harbor’s $16,900,615.

MGM Springfield also has a retail sportsbook, for three total in Massachusetts. Soon, however, there will be a fourth. Raynham Park has partnered with Caesars Sportsbook to open a 30,000-square-foot standalone sportsbook. The Massachusetts Gaming Commission will review the application for that sportsbook license on April 12.If you or a loved one is experiencing problems with gambling, call 1-800-327-5050 or visit www.mahelpline.org/problemgambling to speak with a trained specialist for free, 24/7
