Retail sportsbooks in Massachusetts open for business at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 31. The launch comes just in time for the final push of the NBA regular season, so Boston Celtics fans will be able to place an in-person wager at any of Massachusetts’ three casinos in less than a week.

If you want to get in on the action, here’s all you need to know about how to bet on the Celtics at MA retail sportsbooks.

Betting Options at Retail Sportsbooks in Massachusetts

Each of the state’s three casinos will house a retail sportsbook. Most processes are the same, with a small exception for Encore Boston Harbor’s state-of-the-art facility.

Encore Boston Harbor Sportsbook

Encore Boston Harbor will be host to the biggest retail sportsbook in the state. The sportsbook will be managed by WynnBET, and it will be the most dynamic of all Massachusetts sports betting locations.

Sports Kiosks

Encore Boston Harbor’s sportsbook will house 118 sports betting kiosks throughout the property. There are two ways sports bettors can use the kiosks to place a wager. It is important to note, if you use the kiosk, all wagers are final and cannot be changed once the wager is placed. This method allows straight wagers, parlays, and round robins.

Bring Your Own Device

This option is best suited for patrons who don’t plan to stick around long. To use this feature:

  1. Access WynnBET’s online betslip creator on your phone to view the odds and set your wager.
  2. Once your wager is set, take a screenshot of the QR code on the right-hand side and head to the on-site sportsbook.
  3. When you get to the kiosk in the casino, scan your betslip and finalize your wager.

Wager on the Kiosk in the Casino

If you have time and want to stick around to watch the games at the casino, you can also complete the entire betting process in person at a kiosk. Each kiosk has the odds available to review on site and allows the same wager options as the online feature. Setting up your betslip and finalizing your bet is no different than the online process.

Betting Windows

WynnBET’s sportsbook will also have eight sports betting windows with live tellers to place wagers as well. This is great option for people who aren’t too fond of technology and prefer to place their wager the old fashioned way. However, this option is not 24 hours like the kiosks. Betting windows are open in the casino from 9 a.m. to 12 a.m.

MGM Springfield Sportsbook

The BetMGM Massachusetts sportsbook in the MGM Springfield Casino isn’t nearly as sizable as that of Boston Harbor’s, but it does provide access to one of the premier sportsbooks on the market. Users who are interested in BetMGM odds have the following options available.

Kiosks

Sports betting kiosks are a mainstay in casinos in other states with legal sports betting, and the Massachusetts casinos are following suit. BetMGM’s retail sportsbook will have 18 kiosks available for interested bettors. Unlike WynnBET at Encore Boston Harbor, BetMGM users must establish 100% of their wagers using a kiosk in person at the casino.

Live Tellers

BetMGM’s retail sportsbook will be able to provide up to eight tellers depending on demand. Users are expected to know their wager options before approaching a live teller. BetMGM odds are available online even though it won’t be live in Massachusetts until March 2023. There will also be screens in the sportsbook section of the casino with display screens for game lines.

If you are going to use a live teller to wager, it is advised to write down your bets ahead of time. That ensures efficiency of service and a good experience for all interested sports bettors.

Plainridge Park Casino Sportsbook

The Plainridge Park Casino will have a sportsbook managed by Barstool Sportsbook, which was awarded a temporary retail sports betting license by the Massachusetts Gaming Commission. The casino is expected to have 20 sports betting kiosks and a six betting windows at its permanent sportsbook as well.

At first, however, PPC will have a temporary sportsbook with 18 kiosks and five windows.

The process for placing wagers at the Barstool sportsbook is no different than that of MGM Springfield.
