Pompano Park Goes Out With A Bang; Near-Record Handle On Final Night At 'Winter Capital Of Harness Racing'

Pompano Park's racing at the Florida harness track came to an end on Sunday night. The track's owner Caesars Entertainment announced 2022 would be the last season of racing. A record-breaking handle of $1,430,824 was made on the closing night, which included 16 races. Wally Hennessey, the track record holder, won the final race with Panocchio. Other honorees included the founders Fred and Frances Dodge Van Lennep, 60-year employee Charlie Adams, and Tom Merriman and Bill Popfinger, both participants during Pompana's opening season in 1964.
