Preakness Odds & Ends: Asmussen Entering 3 Horses; Filly Swiss Skydiver Still in Picture

Steve Asmussen has three horses for the 145 Preakness on Oct. 3. They are Pneumatic, Max Player and Excession. The horse will take on Kentucky Derby winner Authentic. As mussen is expecting a good weekend at Pimlico. The trainer recently became the second trainer to hit the 9,000-win mark. No spectators will be in attendance.

The Preakness is on May 18th. There are nine horses in the field. The draw is at 12 p.m. ET. Trainer Ken McPeek is considering running his filly Swiss Skydiver.

Authentic, trained by Bob Baffert, has a final workout planned for Monday at Churchill Downs before arriving in Baltimore on Tuesday. Thousand Words also worked on Saturday at the same time. Art Collector worked 4 furlongs in 48.00 under jockey Brian Hernandez, Jr. up.

Asmussen's horses are going to the Preakness. Pneumatic won Pegasus Stakes at Monmouth Park on Aug. 15. Excession finished second to Nadal in Rebel Stake on March 14. Max Player finished fifth in the Derby and third in his two starts.

Mr. Big News worked 4 furlongs in 50.40 seconds at Churchill Downs on Friday. It was his final breeze before the Preakness.

Tiz the Law had his first breeze since finishing second in the Derby. He will not race in Preakness. Tiz will train up to the $6 million Breeders’ Cup Classic at Keeneland on November 7.
