Arsenal led the way in the Premier League for most of last season.

In the end City finished top for a third season on the bounce by a margin of five points, with Arsenal second, Manchester United third and Newcastle United fourth.

The key question for the 2023/24 season is whether anyone can halt City, who also won the FA Cup and the Champions League last term.

Will Manchester City triumph for fourth season on the bounce? (8/11)

Manchester City have been by far the best team in English football in recent years.

They have won five of the last six Premier League titles and each of the last three. Last season they finally won the Champions League for the first time, beating Inter 1-0 in the final.

City have the best manager in the division and the strongest starting XI too. Erling Haaland was, in many respects, the final piece of the jigsaw.

It is hard to see Pep Guardiola’s side finishing anywhere but first. Their rivals will hope they have lost a bit of hunger after beating all comers last term, but that seems unlikely.

Will Jurgen Klopp work his magic at Liverpool in the 2023/24 campaign? (8/1)

Liverpool pushed Manchester City all the way in 2021/22, but last season was hugely disappointing.

Jurgen Klopp conceded the title as early as October, as the Reds went on to finish fifth.

Their absence from the Champions League - a tournament whose final they have reached three times under Klopp - is a blow.

But Liverpool will be determined to show that last term was nothing more than a blip. They ended the season strongly and will be looking to carry that momentum into the upcoming campaign.

Klopp’s team have consistently shown they are able to keep pace with Manchester City - can they do so again in 2023/24?

Could Manchester United mount a genuine title tilt for the first time in years? (12/1)

Manchester United had a decent first season under Erik ten Hag. They achieved their top objective by finishing in the top four, and won the EFL Cup to boot.

At the time of writing United’s summer is being dominated by the ongoing takeover saga, as two parties compete to buy out the Glazers.

Ten Hag would no doubt prefer everything to be sorted off the pitch so that he can focus on improving his squad for the season ahead.

United require reinforcements in key areas - not least in goal and up front - if they are to mount a genuine title tilt.

As things stand Ten Hag’s team do not seem to have the overall quality to compete with Manchester City.

Can any of Chelsea, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur challenge?

Next on the bookies’ list of contenders are Chelsea, who endured a truly dismal season in finishing 12th last time out.

Their squad has undergone a much-needed refinement this summer and they should be much improved under Mauricio Pochettino.

However, a title triumph will surely be beyond the Blues, who will instead focus on qualifying for the Champions League.

Newcastle are a club on the rise under their Saudi Arabian owners. Eddie Howe’s side will have to balance the Premier League with the Champions League in 2023/24, however, and that will make a title challenge difficult.

As for Tottenham, they will struggle to compete at the top of the table even if they are able to keep hold of Bayern Munich target Harry Kane.
