Premier League Relegation Odds: Clarets and Blades favourites to go back down

Goal offers up the very latest Premier League relegation odds for the 2023/24 season, with the Blades favourites to drop back down to the Championship

It is starting to look congested at the bottom of the Premier League as we head past the halfway stage of the season.

The three promoted teams remain in the bottom three places, but there are a few teams who are nervously looking over their shoulders now the busy festive period is out of the way.

Promoted teams still struggling

The three teams who gained promotion from the Championship last season still find themselves in the bottom three but the situation for some is more perilous than for others.

It looks increasingly likely that Sheffield United will make an immediate return to the second tier, despite their recent win over Brentford.

Chris Wilder is back at the helm but the win over the Bees was just their second of the season and the Blades have scored just 15 goals in 20 matches.

With seven points already separating them from safety, it is no surprise to see the South Yorkshire outfit at 1/25 to go down.

Meanwhile, last season’s Championship winners Burnley have also found it tough.

They won at Fulham just before Christmas, but defeats to Liverpool and Aston Villa brought Vincent Kompany’s team back down to earth and they desperately need to improve their home record.

They have lost nine of their ten games at Turf Moor - the sorry Blades are the only team they have beaten at the Lancashire base - and the 2/9 Clarets face a massive clash next time out against Luton.

The Hatters are at least showing some fight as they followed a home win over Newcastle and a 3-2 success at Sheffield United with a spirited performance in a 3-2 loss to Cheslea at Kenilworth Road.

A win at Turf Moor on 15th January would probably see their relegation odds lengthen from 2/7.

Forest give themselves some breathing space

It was an excellent Christmas at the City Ground as Nottingham Forest gained immediate results after they replaced manager Steve Cooper with former Wolves and Tottenham boss Nuno Espirito Santo.

A hat-trick from Chris Wood gave them a 3-1 win at Newcastle and they followed that impressive result with a 2-1 home victory over Manchester United, when Morgan Gibbs-White netted the winner.

Those wins helped the Tricky Trees move up to 15th in the table on 20 points and they are now 4/1 to be playing in the Championship next season

Everton and Brentford may be getting nervous

Forest’s next Premier League game is on 20th January at Brentford and Thomas Frank’s team have been dropping like a stone in recent weeks.

The Bees will be delighted to have striker Ivan Toney available for that date as they have lost seven of their last eight matches to put themselves on the brink of falling into trouble.

Their latest reverse was a 3-1 loss at Crystal Palace and with their other main goal-getter Bryan Mbeumo out injured, the west London outfit need to arrest their slump as quickly as possible.

They are four points above the cut and 8/1 to go down, while Everton are resting a little less easily as they are safe by one point following their ten-point deduction.

Sean Dyche’s Toffees had dragged themselves away from the drop zone with some impressive results as they won five of six matches, but they have followed up with defeats to Tottenham, champions Manchester City and Wolves, and they can now be backed at 9/2 to go down.
