Progress Vancouver party promises new safe and secure public bike parking. Mark Marissen, the mayoral candidate for the Progress Vancouver, has made a new campaign platform promise to build secured public bikes parking in downtown Vancouver. According to Vancouver Police Department statistics, over 2,100 bikes were reported stolen in 2020. The number of cyclists in Vancouver is growing, but there is a lack of public parking for them. There are currently no secure indoor public cycling parking locations. If built, a mixed-use redevelopment of the Hudson’s Bay store building in Downtown Vancouver will include a significant secured bike parkade facility in its lowest basement level.
