Racing: Saturday Selections & Best Bets

RANDWICK – RACE 10 – FURPHY HANDICAP

No shortage of speed here and Passeggiata (8) always ensures its pressure on.

Omni Man (2) is flying. Drawn wide but likely to find a spot midfield with all the early pressure expected. Quite comfortably beat Passeggiata last start and also has one over Insurrection – making his 1000m record 4/4. Best bet of the day.

Tristate (3) is capable of running well first-up. Has looked the part at his two trials and will benefit from the hot tempo up front.

There aren’t many that can lead Passeggiata (8). She’s going to go hard out in front and try pinch it. If you’re keen, I would wait until race day as you’re likely to get a better price.

Her stablemate American President (6) has Rachel King on. He’s loaded with ability but may just find 1000m a touch too short.

VERDICT: Omni Man (2) best bet for me.

FLEMINGTON – RACE 4 – SHANE MURRAY HANDICAP

This is a pretty handy race for this time of year. Barrier one has the potential to be problematic for Legio Ten (4) but his form this campaign is outstanding and his only previous run over 1400m was a solid one, finishing just 1.05L off Elliptical who would then place in the G1 Caulfield Guineas three starts later.

Cause For Concern (3) finished 0.5L in front of Legio Ten here last start and is the obvious danger. The Mathrick galloper has drawn out but he’s pretty versatile in terms of his racing pattern and Oliver jumping on is handy.

Tijuana (1) failed to make his presence felt first-up over 1200m here but he’s better suited over this trip and will strip much fitter off a lengthy break. He can also settle a bit closer in the run from barrier three.

Ex-Kiwi The Creator (7) makes his Australian debut for Price and Kent having won his first two starts in soft fashion. He has a stack of gear changes and may need the run first-up but keep an eye on the betting flucs.

VERDICT: Legio Ten (4) for the win. BEST BET
