This is the preseason opener for both teams, so we don’t fully know what to expect from them. Justin Herbert has never played a preseason snap so we can assume he won’t play in this one, nor will Matthew Stafford, Cooper Kupp or Aaron Donald.
Sean McVay and Brandon Staley share a similar philosophy on preseason playing time, typically opting to keep their top players out of harm’s way. So don’t expect to see the likes of Keenan Allen, Joey Bosa or Khalil Mack on the field at SoFi Stadium.

Advice and prediction
The Rams have not been very good in the preseason under McVay, largely because he doesn’t play his starters in these exhibition games. So it’s all about the backups, which is usually the case with the Chargers, too.
This year could be a bit different for the Rams after McVay said they will play some starters who are competing for roles on the team, but the big-name guys still won’t play.
With this being such a young roster, too, it’s inevitable that some mistakes will be made – from pre-snap penalties to busted coverages on defense. For that reason, the Chargers +3 feels like a good bet, especially with both teams being in their home stadium.
