Red Sox OF prospect makes big jump in Baseball America’s latest rankings

Roman Anthony came into the 2023 season without even being ranked by Baseball America. Now the Red Sox prospect has made a significant jump.

Anthony appeared in BA’s rankings earlier this month at No. 91, just sneaking into the Top 100. And when Thursday’s rankings were released, the 19-year-old found himself much higher on the list.

“One of the top breakout prospects in Low-A this season, Anthony has taken flight since seeing a promotion to High-A Greenville,” Baseball America wrote. “His excellent bat-to-ball skills and discerning eye pair nicely with his developing plus power. Anthony has the ability to develop into a well-rounded offensive player who can handle center field defensively.”

Anthony has been Boston’s fastest-rising prospect. Director of player development Brian Abraham told MassLive’s Christopher Smith that “more power” would be coming “in the near future,” and that power came shortly after his promotion to High-A Greenville when he hit five home runs in 12 games.

In his first 14 games for High-A Greenville, Anthony batted .333 with six home runs and 14 RBI and slugged .784. Now with 21 games under his belt, Anthony is batting .338 with eight home runs and 19 RBI.

Other Red Sox prospects on BA’s latest rankings were Marcelo Mayer (No. 7) and Miguel Bleis (No. 86).
