Red Sox vs Guardians Prediction

The Cleveland Guardians will host the Boston Red Sox for their series finale from Progressive Field. Cleveland took game two after scoring in the fifth inning, 5-2.

Red Sox Betting Preview

Boston moved to 31-31 after falling to Cleveland. The Red Sox squandered at the plate last night, and they’ll look to for better results here in game three. The Boston offense is 4.18 scoring runs per game, while batting .258, with a .340 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 4.89 ERA, with a 1.34 WHIP. Alex Verdugo plated a run in the game one victory, and he leads the team in hits (66) and runs (41). Rafael Devers produced a run in last night’s loss, and he leads the Sox in HR (13) and RBI (50). Masataka Yoshida recorded three hits in the game one win, and he’s posting solid splits of .318/7/33.

Matt Dermody (0-0, 0.00) is set to open the game for Boston. The seventh-year pitcher will make his Sox debut here, after sparingly playing in the majors for the past three seasons. Dermody went 2-2 with a 4.50 ERA over nine appearances with the Worcester Red Sox this year.

Guardians Betting Preview

Cleveland moved to 28-33 after defeating Boston. The Guardians struck back last night after coming up short in game one, and they’ll look to win their fourth out of five here in the series finale. The Cleveland offense is scoring 3.85 runs per game, while batting .229, with a .304 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 4.78 ERA, with a 1.28 WHIP. Jose Ramirez doubled and plated a run in last night’s win, and he leads Cleveland in batting (.260), with 31 RBI. Josh Bell has produced a run in six straight games, and he’s now up to 29 RBI.  Josh Naylor has doubled in three consecutive contests, and he leads the Guardians in RBI (43).

Aaron Civale (1-1, 2.04 ERA, 12 Ks) will get the call for Cleveland. The fifth-year pitcher delivered another shutout performance after silencing the Twins over five innings in his last outing. Both of Civale’s road outings have resulted in scoreless outings, and he’ll look to avenge his lone home spot (a loss to Seattle) here Thursday.

Boston vs Cleveland Trends

Boston is 31-31 against the spread this season, with a 35-24-2 O/U record. Cleveland is 29-32 ATS this year, with a 21-37-2 over/under record.

Corey’s Free Pick

Boston’s pitching situation coming into this one feels shaky, and falls in comparison to Aaron Civale trotting out for Cleveland. Civale has shown flashes of his 2021 season, and I like another strong out from him here at home. The Sox have also struggled at the plate as of late, scoring two runs or less in four of their last five games, so let’s the Guardians for game three.
