Richard Keys makes Everton relegation prediction ahead of B'mouth clash

Richard Keys has made his prediction on the relegation battle between Everton and Leeds for the final day of the Premier League season.

The Toffees know they need a win to confirm their place in the top flight next season in the final game against Bournemouth on Sunday at Goodison Park, with anything but a victory opening the door for Leeds or Leicester City to climb out of the relegation zone.

But writing on his blog (22 May) Keys believes that Sean Dyche’s side secured their safety with the 5-1 win over Brighton, and admitted he can’t see how they don’t beat Bournemouth.

“Despite crumbling at West Ham I fancy Leeds to beat a pathetic Tottenham, but even if they do it won’t be enough,” he wrote.

“I can’t see how Everton don’t beat Bournemouth, so it’s Leeds. Or are we in for one final twist?

“Everton’s win at Brighton was the result that saved them. That was the one that turned the survival battle on its head.

“There’s always one game like it in any run-in. It’s rare that there’s two – but who knows?”

Confident

Everton are believed to be safe by most because Bournemouth have already secured their own safety and we’re at home, but that simply cannot be the mentality going into the game.

The fans will no doubt create a raucous atmosphere and the players will be motivated to be able to push beyond their limits and get the job done. Thankfully, our safety is in our hands.

But we can’t afford to be over-confident heading into the game. Bournemouth are a strong side in good form, and the smallest error will open the door for Leeds or Leicester to take advantage.

Ultimately though, we have to have belief that we can get the job done otherwise we won’t get it over the line. The win over Brighton was unexpected but absolutely massive for the club and the morale, and now we’re almost there.

Dyche knows what’s needed, the players know what’s needed and the fans know what’s needed. Now we just have to go and do it so we can start focusing on the summer.
