Former Big East Conference rivals Rutgers and Miami square off Thursday, Dec. 28 in the Bad Boy Mowers Pinstripe Bowl. Kickoff from Yankee Stadium is set for 2:15 p.m. ET on ESPN.

Rutgers (6-6) is a consensus 1.5-point favorite at the leading online sportsbooks with a game total hovering around 40.5 points.

It’ll be the Scarlet Knights’ second bowl game since 2014 and third appearance in the Pinstripe Bowl after they made it in 2011 and 2013. And with the close proximity to Rutgers’ New Jersey campus, expect a sea of red at Yankee Stadium and a de facto home game for the Big Ten’s Scarlet Knights.

Miami (7-5), of the Atlantic Coast Conference, is playing in its first bowl in three seasons and will be appearing in the Pinstripe Bowl for the second time following a 2018 loss to Wisconsin.

Rutgers closed out Big Ten play with four straight November losses to finish 3-5 in conference play, but all four of those defeats came against bowl qualifiers.

The Hurricanes also struggled down the stretch, dropping three of their final four games to finish 3-5 in the ACC.

Miami is 11- all-time vs. Rutgers, but this will be their first meeting since 2003 — the Hurricanes’ final season in the Big East.

Miami will be down to its third-string quarterback in sophomore Jacurri Brown after starter Tyler Van Dyke entered the transfer portal at the end of the regular season and Emory Williams was lost to a broken arm.

Brown did not play a snap all season and will have to contend with a stout Rutgers defense, the Scarlet Knights’ “home-field” edge, and New York’s un-South Florida-like December weather conditions.

Rutgers averaged only 22.8 points per game (105th in the FBS) and figures to rely heavily on Big Ten rushing leader Kyle Monangai, who recently announced he will return for a fifth season in 2024.

Meanwhile, the Scarlet Knights boast one of the nation’s top defenses — ranking top 30 nationally with 21.0 points and 313.7 total yards allowed — and that’s a brutal matchup for Miami and its inexperienced QB.
