Santa Anita Barn Notes: The Chosen Vron Seeks 4th Straight Stakes Win

The Chosen Vron is looking for his fourth straight win at Santa Anita.

The Chosen Vron is the 4-5 favorite in Saturday's $150,000 Don Valpredo California Cup Sprint for state-breds 4 years old and up. The Chosen vron has won three-straight stakes for trainer Eric Kruljac. Big City Lights and The Vronsky gelding went head-to-head in the restricted Cary Grant Stakes at Del Mar last month. The current win streak has pushed The Chose Vr's earnings to $522,678 for an ownership group. It's his eighth win in 12 starts. He's never raced the Cal Cup distance of six furlongs on dirt or on an off track.

Fashionably Fast, a six-time stakes winner for breeder and co-owner Harris Farms, has been retired. Fashionably fast won $807,143 in five seasons of racing. He was trained by Dean Pederson. He will be taken care of at Harris Farm in Coalinga, California.

Justique, Parody and Huntingcoco worked on Monday. The Santa Ynez was postponed a week to this Sunday, Jan. 8. Justique is the expected heavy favorite. Fast and Shiny will not be on the card. The race is a points-paying prep for the Kentucky Oaks. It is co-feature on Sunday's card with the Grade III, $100,000 Sham Stakes.

There will be a mandatory payout in the 20 cent Single Ticket Rainbow Pick Six Jackpot this Saturday at Santa Anita Park. There will also be five California-bred races, highlighted by the $200,000 Cal Cup Derby and the Unusual Heat Turf Classic. The first post time is at 12 noon. Admission gates will open at 10 a.m.

Santa Anita will offer a mandatory payout in the 20 cent Single Ticket Rainbow Pick Six Jackpot on Saturday. The total Rainbow Six pool is expected to exceed $3 million. On Saturday, there will be the inaugural “1/ST Coast to Coast Pick 5’ tying to together races from Santa Anita and Gulfstream Park. It is a $1 minimum wager with a player-friendly 15 percent takeout.
