Seattle Mariners vs. Toronto Blue Jays Prediction 7-21-23 MLB Picks

The Toronto Blue Jays and the Seattle Mariners meet in game one of their MLB weekend series from T-Mobile Park on Friday night. The Jays fans usually travel out in droves for this matchup on the West Coast, can the Jays pick up where they left off after winning 2 of 3 in the first series against the Mariners this season? Or will the Mariners exact some revenge at home? Let’s find out.

Jays Offense Needs To Wake Up

The Toronto Blue Jays have been rolling along in the month of July, but the offense came out flat in the first couple of games in their weekday set against the San Diego Padres before a 4-0 win in Thursday’s series finale salvaged a win for the Jays ahead of this West Coast trip. That being said, Toronto’s still 4-2 in their 6 games post All-Star break, and that includes an impressive sweep of the Arizona Diamondbacks. Toronto’s charge has been led by the likes of Bo Bichette, who leads the Jays with 130 hits, 16 home runs and a .319 batting average while Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has 15 home runs and a team-high 61 RBIs this season. Matt Chapman’s also contributed a team-best 30 doubles for Toronto as well on the year. Yusei Kikuchi gets the start against his former team here and is 7-3 with a 4.13 ERA and 100 strikeouts this season.

Mariners Earn Split With Twins

The Seattle Mariners have had their ups and downs for much of the season but have still managed to fight their way back to .500, earning a series split with the Minnesota Twins thanks to a 5-0 win over Minnesota in Thursday’s series finale. The W leaves the Mariners 5.5 games out of the second Wild Card spot and while there’s still plenty of time and games to be played, the Mariners can’t afford to take any opponent lightly as August is right around the corner. Julio Rodriguez leads the Mariners with 95 hits while Teoscar Hernandez has a team-high 16 home runs along with 52 RBIs for the Mariners this season. Eugenio Suarez has 14 homers of his own along with a team-high 58 RBIs as well. Bryce Miller will get the start for the Mariners here and is 6-3 with a 3.66 ERA and 58 strikeouts this season.

Chris’ Pick

I have to look at the under in this game. Both of these pitchers have had their share of ups and downs this season, but both come in in pretty decent form, with the Mariners also not all that great against left-handed pitching and Kikuchi having to have an edge pitching against his former team. Toronto’s offense was sluggish against San Diego though on the other side, and a west coast trip on no rest likely won’t help. Give me the under here.
