Section 215’s Best Philly Betting Picks for 7/19 (Phillies Win, Eagles Repeat, Marlins Stumble)

The Philadelphia Phillies won again on Tuesday and will look to stay hot against the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday. They’re not the only baseball betting options available today, though, as we’re also thinking about their competitors in the NL East.

Football season will be here before you know it, and we’ve already got an eye on the Philadelphia Eagles as well. After they made it all the way to the Super Bowl last year, we have high hopes for them this season.

Here are our editors’ top betting picks in Philadelphia sports today.

Best Philadelphia Betting Picks: July 19

Tyler Maher: Phillies Moneyline vs. Brewers

The Phillies squeaked past the Brewers with a 4-3 win in the series opener yesterday, picking up their fourth straight win in the process.

Philly will look to make it five in a row today behind Christopher Sanchez, who is still searching for his first win of the season. He’s 0-3 in six starts despite a 3.26 ERA and a 0.99 WHIP, so it’s time to get him some run support!

Fortunately, we’ve got a pretty appealing matchup on our hands against Colin Rea, who’s been the definition of mediocre this year with a 4.71 ERA and a 4.82 FIP. He’s given up at least 4 runs in seven of his 15 starts this season, so it’s a good opportunity for our bats to do some damage.

Speaking of our lineup, it’s averaging 6.5 runs per game during the winning streak. Milwaukee, on the other hand, is averaging just 2.4 runs per game over its last five.

The Phillies have been great at home (26-17) but have struggled against the runline (14-29), so we recommend backing the Philly moneyline to be safe.

Jason Schandal: Eagles To Win NFC East

It’s obviously not a hot take to say the Eagles will win the NFC East and the betting markets have reflected that, positioning them as odds-on favorites. Our chances just got a whole lot better on Wednesday, though.

Zack Martin is threatening a holdout for the Dallas Cowboys, and that could just be the first domino of many. This is a team with a ton of top players due for new contracts, and that puts a lot of strain on an organization clearly in win-now mode. Even if Martin doesn’t end up holding out, the threat will have caused some friction in the locker room and is a sign that things aren’t all roses in Dallas, even with a roster that admittedly projects as a very talented one.

I’m sure you don’t need me to sell you on Philly’s position as one of the most dominant teams in the NFL, and with Dallas losing some of its punch as a close No. 2 in the NFC East, getting the Eagles at close to even money to win the division is a no-brainer.

Isaiah De Los Santos: Marlins To Miss Playoffs (DraftKings Sportsbook)

The Miami Marlins surprised most of the baseball world with their strong start to the 2023 season. However, the previously red-hot fish are starting to cool off in a big way, and Phillies fans have a chance to cash in on the Marlins coming back to earth.

Philadelphia is now in the driver’s seat for the final Wild Card spot in the National League following Tuesday’s results, officially kicking Miami out of the playoffs as they stand right now. It took the Phillies a little bit of time, but they’re finally hitting their stride and look like the contender everyone expected them to be this year. Further helping Ron Thomson’s squad is their strength of schedule down the stretch, which is just No. 19 overall according to Tankathon.

Miami, meanwhile, will have a much rougher time keeping up in the postseason hunt to close the year. The Marlins will face the fourth-most difficult schedule down the stretch, including two series against the NL West-leading Los Angeles Dodgers and seven games left against the Phillies.

Miami’s -15 run differential on the year suggests they’ve played above their heads in 2023. A five-game losing streak and a 3-7 record over their last 10 games also suggest their magic might be running out. I’d be sprinkling some money on the Marlins to miss the playoffs at -120 on DraftKings Sportsbook before those odds get worse.
