Diamondbacks vs Brewers Game 2 Prediction & Best Bet

The Diamondbacks showed a lot of heart in Game 1 of this NL Wild Card series. Despite being down 3-0 after the second inning, Arizona kept its poise as it scored six unanswered runs en route to a 6-3 victory over Milwaukee.

Yesterday’s success wasn’t anything new to the Diamondbacks seeing as they’re 5-2 against the Brewers in 2023 between the regular season and playoffs. In fact, Arizona is now 4-1 in its last five trips to American Family Field.

The Brewers’ confidence is also likely shot after Game 1’s blown lead. The loss also means that Milwaukee has now dropped 13 of its last 17 games played in October.

Freddy Peralta starting tonight likely won’t make Brewers fans feel any more confident.

Although the veteran pitcher has played to a solid 3.92 ERA in his last four starts, Milwaukee lost three of those games while only averaging two runs per contest — highlighting how Peralta doesn’t receive much run support.

Although Zac Gallen hasn’t been all that perfect lately, the D-backs have at least scored 16 total runs in his last three starts. He’s also 6-3 with a 3.73 ERA in his last 10 appearances, which includes allowing three or fewer runs in three of five road starts during that stretch.

In addition to the Diamondbacks winning, I’m also taking the Over on the 7.5-run total. The seven previous Arizona-Milwaukee matchups in 2023 saw an average of 8.3 runs scored, finishing with more than 7.5 runs five times.

Diamondbacks vs Brewers Prediction: ARI 5, MIL 4

Marlins vs Phillies Game 2 Prediction & Best Bet

The Phillies have a chance to sweep this NL Wild Card series tonight after picking up a 4-1 victory in Game 1. Trea Turner and Nick Castellanos each recorded two hits for Philadelphia as Zack Wheeler struck out eight Miami batters with one run allowed over 6 2/3 innings of work.

The momentum stemming from last night’s win puts the Phillies in a good spot to complete the sweep on Wednesday.

Rob Thomson’s club has now won seven of its last eight home games, holding those opponents to an average of 3.4 runs per game. That’s bad news for the Marlins considering that they’ve recorded only one run on 10 hits over their last two outings.

Aaron Nola starting for Philly won’t make things easier for Miami. Not only has the former NL Cy Young finalist played to a 2.60 ERA in his last three starts, but he also pitched a shutout in his last NLWC appearance in 2022.

Meanwhile, tonight’s game serves as Braxton Garrett’s MLB postseason debut. The former 2016 first-rounder has been great on the road this season (6-3, 2.85 ERA in 15 starts), but is 0-1 with a 5.00 ERA on two previous trips to Citizens Bank Park.

With the Phillies riding high after last night and Garrett struggling in the City of Brotherly Love, back Philadelphia to advance to the NLDS.

Marlins vs Phillies Prediction: PHI 4, MIL 2

Marlins vs Phillies Best Bet: PHI -1.5 (+145 on BetOnline)
