Sergio Aguero overlooks Arsenal and Liverpool when naming Man City's biggest Premier League title rivals

Manchester City legend Sergio Aguero has insisted that neither Arsenal or Liverpool are his old club's biggest foes this season.

Instead, the former Argentina international has made the shock revelation that Manchester United could rival City for the title.

“You can never sleep on Man United at this stage of the season," Aguero told Stake.com.

"They are one of the biggest threats to Man City’s Premier League title.

"I also think Tottenham are title contenders, who have improved a lot under Ange Postecoglou.

"Even despite their ups and downs, Newcastle are also in with a chance of the title as they always put up a fight.”

City are currently fourth in the Premier League after losing a two-goal lead against Crystal Palace on Saturday at the Etihad Stadium to draw 2-2.

While it has left them battling for a spot in the top-four, the champions have drifted to five points off league leaders Arsenal.

As Aguero warned his old side, Tottenham are just a point behind City while Newcastle are five points behind.

But the ex-striker's revelation that United could be battling it out for the league title might be the most surprising call of the lot.

The Red Devils find themselves seventh in the Premier League, 11 points off the top and six behind City.

Erik ten Hag's men have failed to win a single game against a side that is ranked higher than them this season.

And there are huge problems currently at the club, both on and off the pitch, after crashing out of the Champions League last week.

However, they managed to arrest the slump somewhat on Sunday with a 0-0 draw against Liverpool that many expected United to lose badly in.

While Aguero's statement that United are title challengers might seem far-fetched, this is certainly already shaping up to be one of the most open Premier League battles in years.

As well as Arsenal and Liverpool in the top-four, Aston Villa are leading their own chase and could be top of the table on Friday when they take on Sheffield United at Villa Park.

But City's strength in depth still likely makes them favourites to go on and clinch the title, as they have done for three years in a row.

Even after dropping their standards slightly, they remain the arguably the strongest team in the league and Arsenal, Liverpool and United will have to pull something special out of the bag to top them.
