After three consecutive victories at Stamford Bridge, Arsenal failed to emerge triumphant away to Chelsea at the weekend.

Yet the way Saturday’s 2-2 draw played out will give Mikel Arteta and his players plenty of confidence as they seek to win the Premier League title this term.

Arsenal were second best for long periods of the game. They struggled to break down Chelsea’s well-organised defensive shape. 

Until Declan Rice halved the deficit after a Robert Sanchez mistake in the 77th minute, Arsenal had not landed a single shot on target.

Yet despite being inferior to their London rivals on the day, the Gunners found a way to get something from the game.

Rice’s goal was followed by a Leandro Trossard strike seven minutes later, as Arsenal stunned the home fans into silence.

Arteta will have been delighted with the resolve his players showed, and they will probably need to demonstrate that quality again on Tuesday.

Sevilla might be in the bottom half of the La Liga table right now, but they are improving fast under Diego Alonso.

It came despite the fact that los Nervionenses were in the La Liga relegation zone around the midway point of the campaign, and still among the contenders for demotion in March.

Now Mendilibar himself is out of a job. After a shaky start to the 2023/24 season, the Sevilla board acted decisively to remove the Europa League-winning manager earlier this month. 

In his place came the aforementioned Alonso, who was most recent at the helm of the Uruguay national team.

His side held Real Madrid to a 1-1 draw at the weekend. In fact, Sevilla have now lost only one of their last eight matches in all competitions, recovering from their three straight defeats at the beginning of the La Liga season.

Meanwhile Sevilla have not lost at home in European competition for more than a year. Manchester United and Juventus were both defeated at the Pizjuan earlier in 2023.

Arsenal will be targeting a victory on matchday three, but they may have to settle for a draw at best.

En-Nesyri scored twice in last season’s group stage but that was not enough for Sevilla to finish in the top two.

But the 26-year-old found the back of the net against PSV on matchday two this year and he will be Sevilla’s primary attacking threat on Tuesday too.

En-Nesyri also scored against Manchester City in the UEFA Super Cup, so he will not be fazed by the prospect of facing Arsenal.
