Sheffield Wednesday vs Sunderland LIVE commentary: Owls owner issues bizarre statement as Championship bottom side face promotion hopefuls

Sheffield Wednesday welcome Sunderland this evening as two teams at opposite ends of the Championship clash, live on talkSPORT 2.

The Owls have picked up two points from their opening eight matches, and ahead of the game, the club's owner Dejphon Chansiri has issued a bizarre statement.

Essentially, he has promised to stop funding the team if protests against his tenure continue, while the club isn't officially for sale.

It's a pretty dire situation and a game against Sunderland is the last thing Xisco Munoz's men needed.

The Black Cats have scored 17 goals and sit in fifth place as they look to get back into the Premier League after six years outside of the top-flight.

Tony Mowbray's team are currently fifth and can move up to fourth with a win.

Sheffield Wednesday vs Sunderland: What has been said?

Wednesday owner Chansiri has confirmed he will no longer fund the club.

He said: "From now, I will not put additional money into the club.

"I am the one who saved the club and spent the money for the club, I am the one who needs to pay around £2m on average every month.

"Some fans need to have more respect for owners of clubs and not be so selfish, thinking of their own benefit without doing anything good to the club.

"Those fans who create trouble to the club and myself and believe that they are the real owner of the club need to be responsible for the financial matters of the club from now on."
