Pizza Bianca is back at Del Mar to compete in the G1 Matriarch on Sunday. She is coming off of a fourth-place finish in G2 Sands Point at the Belmont at Aqueduct meet last month. Phil D'Amato is the trainer's champion at the Bing Crosby meet. He has brought 40 horses to the meet and they've won 17 races. Juan Hernandez and Flavien Prat are the riders' champions. They have 20 wins each. Ramon Vasquez is third. The final day of the 13-day meet is Sunday. Prats and Hernandez have rides in the G1 Matriarch. The winner will be crowned. It's the first time since the summer that the jockeys' champion has gone back-to-back with fall meet titles.

Field size at the Bing Crosby meet is up. The Turf Festival was expanded to two weeks. There were 114 races during the meet. There was 59 on the grass. A slight increase in the number of horses qualifying for the ‘Ship & Win’ program. Thirty-eight horses have qualified for “Ship and Win,” compared to 29 last year. Del Mar has a corner on turf racing. It's luring more out-of-town trainers of grass runners to the track in fall. They have a Grade I for 3-year-olds. and a G1 Matriarch for fillies and mares for black type purposes.
