Steelers vs. Seahawks: Odds, picks, props and best bets

The Steelers vs. Seahawks game features a pair of 8-7 teams vying for a playoff spot. Both these teams are third in their respective divisions despite the winning record. If the playoffs started today, the Steelers would not be in the mix. Pittsburgh is the 10 seed in the AFC due to tiebreakers even though the three teams in front are also at 8-7. For Seattle, if the playoffs started today, they would have the final No. 7 spot. Currently, in No. 6 is their rival Rams and the 49ers are atop the NFC.

The Steelers moved on to their third quarterback of the season last week. Just two days before Christmas, Mason Rudolph got the start versus the Bengals. The Steelers started the season with second-year quarterback Kenny Pickett then moved to Mitch Trubisky when Pickett got sidelined with an ankle injury. With Rudolph during Christmas week, the Steelers earned a 34-11 victory over the Bengals. In that game, Rudolph went 17 for 27 with 290 yards and two touchdowns.

This team has struggled with red zone scoring, ranking 27th in the league. Can Rudolph keep the holiday magic alive on New Year’s Eve in Seattle?

The Seahawks have struggled in the red zone too, ranking 28th in the league in red zone scoring. What Seattle has going for them is this is a home game. The Seahawks are 5-2 at home this year compared to 3-5 on the road. Their two home losses come against the Rams and 49ers who are seeded better in the NFC playoff picture.

DK Metcalf is two yards shy of 1,000 for the season. The receiver has hauled in 60 receptions for 998 yards and has eight touchdowns this season. Of note, five of those touchdowns have come over the past four weeks.

The Seahawks have competed with fellow conference foes this year. Their biggest victory so far is the 20-17 win over the Eagles on Monday Night Football. However, losing four of their last six to the 49ers (twice), Cowboys and Rams hurt their playoff chances.

The Steelers played well last week with Rudolph, but before that, they lost to the Cardinals, Patriots and Colts in three consecutive games. That is troubling. The Seahawks haven’t been the most consistent either, but they are battle-prepped against some of the league’s best.
