Steve Cauthen: 'If Godolphin had been created earlier, I might not have retired'

Steve Cauthen retired in 1992 at the age of 32. He had been paid £1 million a year for two years by Sheikh Mohammed. Cuthen had ridden Oh So Sharp in the 1,000 Guineas in 1985. Godolphin was created in 1993. Balanchine won the Guines in 1994 under Frankie Dettori. The late Lester Piggott was a good friend of Cutthen. His relationship with him ended in divorce. It was during the Gulf War that Colthen didn't talk to Sheikh about the horses.
