6:00pm Highlanders vs Blues @ Melbourne Rectangular Stadium

The Highlanders lived up to our expectations when beating Moana Pasifika 35-21 last week, and that should them encouragement.

However, the Blues were more impressive winning 34-10 against the Drua, who are a better team than Moana in 2024.

We’re not surprised to see the Blues open as –13.5 favourites. It’s a fair line and playing at a neutral ground helps the Blues.

We expect another big win from the premiership contenders.

Betting tip: Blues –13.5 @ $1.90

8:10pm Rebels vs Force @ Melbourne Rectangular Stadium

The Rebels get the advantage of playing at home, but they need it after a dreadful performance in Week 1.

They were thumped by the Brumbies 30-3, which was a shocking way to start 2024 for the home side.

Luckily for the Rebels, the Force weren’t any better when losing to the Hurricanes 44-14 in a one-sided affair in Perth.

It’s tough to get excited about either team, so we’re taking the team getting points.

Betting tip: Force +6.5 @ $1.94

Saturday 2/3/24

5:00pm Moana Pasifika vs Fijian Drua @ Melbourne Rectangular Stadium

Punters get a value line with the Drua, who are $1.26 favourites to win outright but only –5.5 with spread markets.

Being such a short-priced favourite but giving away less than a converted try is good value, despite how poor they looked last week.

There is more upside with the Drua compared to the Pasifika, who could go winless this year. Betting tip: Drua –5.5 @ $1.90

7:35pm Crusaders vs Waratahs @ Melbourne Rectangular Stadium

The Crusaders did all they could against the Chiefs, but it wasn’t enough to get the win.

However, it was one of the best performances of the week, and they should have the Waratahs dead to rights on Saturday night.

The Waratahs were hammered 40-22 by the Reds, which isn’t an ideal way to start the season. Their confidence levels are already low, which doesn’t bode well.

The current line is 18.5, and with good reason.

Sunday 3/3/24

2:00pm Chiefs vs Brumbies @ Melbourne Rectangular Stadium

The Chiefs and Brumbies looked good in the opening week, so this could be the game of the round.

The Chiefs came back late to get past the pesky Crusaders, and it was a high-quality contest, which bodes well for their future.

We were also impressed with the Brumbies, and to only allow three points is good defence. However, the Kiwi teams have the edge, so we expect the Chiefs to win and cover the spread.

Betting tip: Chiefs –7.5 @ $1.94

4:30pm Hurricanes vs Reds @ Melbourne Rectangular Stadium

It was hard not to be impressed with the Hurricanes attack last week, which put up 44 points against the Force.

However, the Reds also scored 40 points against the Waratahs, so confidence levels should be high for both teams.

We’re inclined to back the Kiwi team at –9.5, but the Reds could be the hope for the Australian teams in Round 2.
