Game Totals Pick

The Texas State Bobcats were a fun team to watch, win or lose, especially down the stretch. They’ll make their bowl debut in this game. The over cashed in 3 of their final 4 games of the regular season, with the offense averaging 37.8 points per game (ppg), while allowing 44.0 ppg in the 4-game stretch. That includes 77 points allowed to Arkansas State in the penultimate game of the regular season. The Bobcats rolled up 471.8 total yards per game, while registering 36.0 ppg. The offense was very balanced, too, going for 280.8 passing yards and 190.9 rushing yards per game, both 23rd in the country. Defensively, the Bobcats were terrible, and getting worse as the season went along.

The Rice Owls will be without quarterback JT Daniels, as he is taking a medical retirement due to concussion. Redshirt freshman QB AJ Padgett gets the nod, and he’ll have WR Luke McCaffrey to help ease him into action, while RB Dean Connors should also give the beleaguered Texas State defense fits. Even without Daniels, this Owls team should be able to post some decent offense. Rice averaged 30.3 ppg, and it was just so-so defensively. It wouldn’t be surprising to see both of these teams get into the 30s and has all the makings of a high-scoring matchup.
